Psalm 106:1-12

Give Thanks to the Lord, for He Is Good

106 ^(A)Praise the Lord!
^(B)Oh give thanks to the Lord, ^(C)for he is good,
    ^(D)for his steadfast love endures forever!
²Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
    or declare all his praise?
³Blessed are they who observe justice,
    who ^(E)do righteousness at all times!

⁴^(F)Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    help me when you save them,^[a]
⁵that I may look upon the prosperity of your ^(G)chosen ones,
    that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
    that I may glory with your inheritance.

⁶^(H)Both we and ^(I)our fathers have sinned;
    we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
⁷Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
    did not consider your wondrous works;
they ^(J)did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
    but ^(K)rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
⁸Yet he saved them ^(L)for his name's sake,
    ^(M)that he might make known his mighty power.
⁹He ^(N)rebuked the Red Sea, and it ^(O)became dry,
    and he ^(P)led them through the deep as through a desert.
¹⁰So he ^(Q)saved them from the hand of the foe
    and ^(R)redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
¹¹And ^(S)the waters covered their adversaries;
    not one of them was left.
¹²Then ^(T)they believed his words;
    they ^(U)sang his praise.

Deborah and Barak

4 ^(A)And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord after Ehud died. ²And the Lord ^(B)sold them into the hand of ^(C)Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in ^(D)Hazor. The commander of his army was ^(E)Sisera, who lived in ^(F)Harosheth-hagoyim. ³Then the people of Israel ^(G)cried out to the Lord for help, for he had ^(H)900 chariots of iron and he oppressed the people of Israel cruelly for twenty years.

⁴Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. ⁵She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in ^(I)the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment. ⁶She sent and summoned ^(J)Barak the son of Abinoam from ^(K)Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, “Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount ^(L)Tabor, taking 10,000 from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulun. ⁷And I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, to meet you by ^(M)the river Kishon with his chariots and his troops, ^(N)and I will give him into your hand’?” ⁸Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” ⁹And she said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the Lord will ^(O)sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. ¹⁰And Barak called out ^(P)Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh. And 10,000 men went up at his heels, and Deborah went up with him.

¹¹Now Heber ^(Q)the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, the descendants of ^(R)Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in ^(S)Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.

¹²When Sisera was told that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor, ¹³Sisera called out all his chariots, ^(T)900 chariots of iron, and all the men who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the river Kishon. ¹⁴And Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day in which ^(U)the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. ^(V)Does not the Lord go out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him. ¹⁵^(W)And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army before Barak by the edge of the sword. And Sisera got down from his chariot and fled away on foot. ¹⁶And Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was left.

¹⁰Finally, ^(A)be strong in the Lord and in ^(B)the strength of his might. ¹¹^(C)Put on ^(D)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against ^(E)the schemes of the devil. ¹²For ^(F)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against ^(G)the rulers, against the authorities, against ^(H)the cosmic powers over ^(I)this present darkness, against ^(J)the spiritual forces of evil ^(K)in the heavenly places. ¹³Therefore ^(L)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in ^(M)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. ¹⁴Stand therefore, ^(N)having fastened on the belt of truth, and ^(O)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵and, ^(P)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. ¹⁶In all circumstances take up ^(Q)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all ^(R)the flaming darts of ^(S)the evil one; ¹⁷and take ^(T)the helmet of salvation, and ^(U)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
