Rescue the Weak and Needy

A Psalm of (A)Asaph.

82 (B)God (C)has taken his place in the divine council;
    in the midst of (D)the gods he (E)holds judgment:
“How long will you judge unjustly
    and (F)show partiality to (G)the wicked? Selah
(H)Give justice to (I)the weak and the fatherless;
    (J)maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
(K)Rescue the weak and the needy;
    (L)deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

(M)They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
    (N)they walk about in darkness;
    (O)all the foundations of the earth are (P)shaken.

(Q)I said, “You are gods,
    sons of the Most High, all of you;
nevertheless, like men (R)you shall die,
    and fall like any prince.”[a]

(S)Arise, O God, judge the earth;
    for you shall (T)inherit all the nations!

O God, Do Not Keep Silence

A Song. A Psalm of (U)Asaph.

83 O God, do not keep silence;
    (V)do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies (W)make an uproar;
    those who hate you have (X)raised their heads.
They lay (Y)crafty plans against your people;
    they consult together against your (Z)treasured ones.
They say, “Come, (AA)let us wipe them out as a nation;
    let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
For they conspire with one accord;
    against you they make a covenant—
the tents of (AB)Edom and (AC)the Ishmaelites,
    (AD)Moab and (AE)the Hagrites,
(AF)Gebal and (AG)Ammon and (AH)Amalek,
    (AI)Philistia with the inhabitants of (AJ)Tyre;
(AK)Asshur also has joined them;
    they are the strong arm of (AL)the children of Lot. Selah

Do to them as you did to (AM)Midian,
    as to (AN)Sisera and Jabin at (AO)the river Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at (AP)En-dor,
    who became (AQ)dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like (AR)Oreb and Zeeb,
    all their princes like (AS)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, (AT)“Let us take possession for ourselves
    of the pastures of God.”

13 O my God, make them like (AU)whirling dust,[b]
    like (AV)chaff before the wind.
14 As (AW)fire consumes the forest,
    as the flame (AX)sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so may you pursue them (AY)with your tempest
    and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 (AZ)Fill their faces with shame,
    that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be (BA)put to shame and dismayed forever;
    let them perish in disgrace,
18 that they may (BB)know that you alone,
    (BC)whose name is the Lord,
    are (BD)the Most High over all the earth.

My Soul Longs for the Courts of the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (BE)The Gittith.[c] A Psalm of (BF)the Sons of Korah.

84 How (BG)lovely is your (BH)dwelling place,
    O Lord of hosts!
My soul (BI)longs, yes, (BJ)faints
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
    to (BK)the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
    (BL)my King and my God.
(BM)Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
    ever (BN)singing your praise! Selah

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    (BO)in whose heart are the highways to Zion.[d]
As they go through the Valley of Baca
    they make it a place of springs;
    (BP)the early rain also covers it with (BQ)pools.
They go (BR)from strength to strength;
    each one (BS)appears before God in Zion.

O (BT)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
    give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
(BU)Behold our (BV)shield, O God;
    look on the face of your anointed!

10 For a day (BW)in your courts is better
    than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be (BX)a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is (BY)a sun and (BZ)shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor.
(CA)No good thing does he withhold
    from those who (CB)walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
    (CC)blessed is the one who trusts in you!

Psalm 84[e]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[f] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

How lovely is your dwelling place,(BA)
    Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns,(BB) even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.(BC)
Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,(BD)
    Lord Almighty,(BE) my King(BF) and my God.(BG)
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.[g]

Blessed are those whose strength(BH) is in you,
    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(BI)
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;(BJ)
    the autumn(BK) rains also cover it with pools.[h]
They go from strength to strength,(BL)
    till each appears(BM) before God in Zion.(BN)

Hear my prayer,(BO) Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me, God of Jacob.
Look on our shield,[i](BP) O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.(BQ)

10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper(BR) in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun(BS) and shield;(BT)
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold(BU)
    from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty,

19 For the creation waits with eager longing for (A)the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation (B)was subjected to futility, not willingly, but (C)because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that (D)the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that (E)the whole creation (F)has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have (G)the firstfruits of the Spirit, (H)groan inwardly as (I)we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, (J)the redemption of our bodies. 24 For (K)in this hope we were saved. Now (L)hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we (M)wait for it with patience.

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For (N)we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but (O)the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And (P)he who searches hearts knows what is (Q)the mind of the Spirit, because[a] the Spirit (R)intercedes for the saints (S)according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together (T)for good,[b] for (U)those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he (V)foreknew he also (W)predestined (X)to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be (Y)the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also (Z)justified, and those whom he justified he also (AA)glorified.

God's Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? (AB)If God is for us, who can be[c] against us? 32 (AC)He who did not spare his own Son but (AD)gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? (AE)It is God who justifies. 34 (AF)Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—(AG)who is at the right hand of God, (AH)who indeed is interceding for us.[d] 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

(AI)“For your sake (AJ)we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than (AK)conquerors through (AL)him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God(A) to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,(B) in hope 21 that[a] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay(C) and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.(D)

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning(E) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,(F) groan(G) inwardly as we wait eagerly(H) for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.(I) 24 For in this hope we were saved.(J) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.(K) Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.(L)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(M) himself intercedes for us(N) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(O) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(P) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good(Q) of those who love him, who[b] have been called(R) according to his purpose.(S) 29 For those God foreknew(T) he also predestined(U) to be conformed to the image of his Son,(V) that he might be the firstborn(W) among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined,(X) he also called;(Y) those he called, he also justified;(Z) those he justified, he also glorified.(AA)

More Than Conquerors

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things?(AB) If God is for us,(AC) who can be against us?(AD) 32 He who did not spare his own Son,(AE) but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge(AF) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns?(AG) No one. Christ Jesus who died(AH)—more than that, who was raised to life(AI)—is at the right hand of God(AJ) and is also interceding for us.(AK) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?(AL) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?(AM) 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[c](AN)

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors(AO) through him who loved us.(AP) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[d] neither the present nor the future,(AQ) nor any powers,(AR) 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God(AS) that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(AT)
