(A)In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
    but you have given me an open (B)ear.[a]
Burnt offering and sin offering
    you have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
    in the scroll of the book it is written (C)of me:
(D)I delight to do your will, O my God;
    your law is (E)within my heart.”

I have told the glad news of deliverance[b]
    in (F)the great congregation;
behold, I have not (G)restrained my lips,
    (H)as you know, O Lord.
10 I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
    I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
    from the great congregation.

11 As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
    your mercy from me;
your (I)steadfast love and your faithfulness will
    ever preserve me!
12 For evils have (J)encompassed me
    beyond number;
my (K)iniquities have overtaken me,
    and I cannot (L)see;
they are (M)more than the hairs of my head;
    my heart (N)fails me.

13 (O)Be pleased, O Lord, to (P)deliver me!
    O Lord, (Q)make haste to help me!
14 (R)Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether
    who seek to snatch away my life;
let those be (S)turned back and brought to dishonor
    who delight in my hurt!
15 Let those be appalled because of their shame
    who (T)say to me, “Aha, Aha!”

16 But may all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
    (U)say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
17 As for me, I am (V)poor and needy,
    but (W)the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
    do not delay, O my God!

The Passover

12 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, (A)“This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb (B)according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be (C)without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the (D)fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.[a]

“Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the (E)two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with (F)unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but (G)roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. 10 And (H)you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 In this manner you shall eat it: with (I)your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. (J)It is the Lord's Passover. 12 For (K)I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on (L)all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: (M)I am the Lord. 13 (N)The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.

21 Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and select lambs for yourselves (A)according to your clans, and kill the Passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of (B)hyssop and (C)dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch (D)the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. (E)None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. 23 (F)For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on (G)the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and (H)will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you. 24 You shall observe this rite as a statute for you and for your sons forever. 25 And when you come to the land that the Lord will give you, (I)as he has promised, you shall keep this service. 26 And (J)when your children say to you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’ 27 you shall say, (K)‘It is the sacrifice of the Lord's Passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared our houses.’” And the people (L)bowed their heads and worshiped.

28 Then the people of Israel went and did so; as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

26 Now (A)an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south[a] to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an (B)Ethiopian, a (C)eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, (D)who was in charge of all her treasure. (E)He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, (F)“How can I, unless someone (G)guides me?” And (H)he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:

(I)“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
    and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
    so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his (J)humiliation justice was denied him.
    Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”

34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and (K)beginning with this Scripture (L)he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! (M)What prevents me from being baptized?”[b] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, (N)the Spirit of the Lord (O)carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
