Psalm 30

Psalm 30^[a]

A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple.^[b] Of David.

¹I will exalt^(A) you, Lord,
    for you lifted me out of the depths^(B)
    and did not let my enemies gloat over me.^(C)
²Lord my God, I called to you for help,^(D)
    and you healed me.^(E)
³You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;^(F)
    you spared me from going down to the pit.^(G)

⁴Sing^(H) the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;^(I)
    praise his holy name.^(J)
⁵For his anger^(K) lasts only a moment,^(L)
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;^(M)
weeping^(N) may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.^(O)

⁶When I felt secure, I said,
    “I will never be shaken.”^(P)
⁷Lord, when you favored me,
    you made my royal mountain^[c] stand firm;
but when you hid your face,^(Q)
    I was dismayed.

⁸To you, Lord, I called;
    to the Lord I cried for mercy:
⁹“What is gained if I am silenced,
    if I go down to the pit?^(R)
Will the dust praise you?
    Will it proclaim your faithfulness?^(S)
¹⁰Hear,^(T) Lord, and be merciful to me;^(U)
    Lord, be my help.^(V)”

¹¹You turned my wailing^(W) into dancing;^(X)
you removed my sackcloth^(Y) and clothed me with joy,^(Z)
¹²that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise^(AA) you forever.^(AB)

Haggai 2:1-9

2 ¹on the twenty-first day of the seventh month,^(A) the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai:^(B) ²“Speak to Zerubbabel^(C) son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jozadak,^[a]^(D) the high priest, and to the remnant^(E) of the people. Ask them, ³‘Who of you is left who saw this house^(F) in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?^(G) ⁴But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong,^(H) Joshua son of Jozadak,^(I) the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with^(J) you,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ⁵‘This is what I covenanted^(K) with you when you came out of Egypt.^(L) And my Spirit^(M) remains among you. Do not fear.’^(N)

⁶“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while^(O) I will once more shake the heavens and the earth,^(P) the sea and the dry land. ⁷I will shake all nations, and what is desired^(Q) by all nations will come, and I will fill this house^(R) with glory,^(S)’ says the Lord Almighty. ⁸‘The silver is mine and the gold^(T) is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ⁹‘The glory^(U) of this present house^(V) will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,^(W)’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

To the Church in Sardis

3 “To the angel^[a] of the church in Sardis^(A) write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits^[b]^(B) of God and the seven stars.^(C) I know your deeds;^(D) you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.^(E) ²Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. ³Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.^(F) But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,^(G) and you will not know at what time^(H) I will come to you.

⁴Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes.^(I) They will walk with me, dressed in white,^(J) for they are worthy. ⁵The one who is victorious^(K) will, like them, be dressed in white.^(L) I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life,^(M) but will acknowledge that name before my Father^(N) and his angels. ⁶Whoever has ears, let them hear^(O) what the Spirit says to the churches.

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times^(A)

24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. ²“Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;^(B) every one will be thrown down.”

³As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,^(C) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming^(D) and of the end of the age?”^(E)

⁴Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.^(F) ⁵For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.^(G) ⁶You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. ⁷Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.^(H) There will be famines^(I) and earthquakes in various places. ⁸All these are the beginning of birth pains.

⁹“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted^(J) and put to death,^(K) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.^(L) ¹⁰At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, ¹¹and many false prophets^(M) will appear and deceive many people.^(N) ¹²Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, ¹³but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.^(O) ¹⁴And this gospel of the kingdom^(P) will be preached in the whole world^(Q) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
