49 Remember (A)your word to your servant,
in which you have made me (B)hope.
50 This is (C)my comfort in my affliction,
that your promise (D)gives me life.
51 (E)The insolent utterly deride me,
but I do not (F)turn away from your law.
52 When I think of your rules from of old,
    I take comfort, O Lord.
53 (G)Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked,
    who forsake your law.
54 Your statutes have been my songs
in the house of my (H)sojourning.
55 I (I)remember your name in the night, O Lord,
    and keep your law.
56 This blessing has fallen to me,
that (J)I have kept your precepts.

10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities (A)that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, 12 (B)then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 It is (C)the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and (D)by his name you shall swear. 14 You shall not (E)go after other gods, (F)the gods of the peoples who are around you— 15 for (G)the Lord your God in your midst (H)is a jealous God—(I)lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

16 (J)“You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, (K)as you tested him at Massah. 17 You shall (L)diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you. 18 (M)And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers 19 (N)by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has promised.

20 (O)“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son, (P)‘We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 And (Q)the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. 23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, (R)to fear the Lord our God, (S)for our good always, that (T)he might preserve us alive, as we are this day. 25 And (U)it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.’

The Plot to Kill Jesus

45 (A)Many of the Jews therefore, (B)who had come with Mary and (C)had seen what he did, believed in him, 46 but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees (D)gathered (E)the council and said, (F)“What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and (G)the Romans will come and take away both our (H)place and our nation.” 49 But one of them, (I)Caiaphas, (J)who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 Nor do you understand that (K)it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.” 51 He did not say this of his own accord, but (L)being high priest that year (M)he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52 and (N)not for the nation only, but also (O)to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53 So from that day on they (P)made plans to put him to death.

54 Jesus therefore (Q)no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

55 Now (R)the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and (S)many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover (T)to purify themselves. 56 (U)They were looking for[a] Jesus and saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? That he will not come to the feast at all?” 57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should let them know, so that they might arrest him.
