Christ Fulfills the Law

¹⁷ “Don’t think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.^{(A) 18} For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter^[a] or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all things are accomplished. ¹⁹ Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.^(B)

³⁷ He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.^{[a](A) 38} This is the greatest and most important^[b] command. ³⁹ The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.^{[c](B) 40} All the Law and the Prophets depend^[d] on these two commands.”^(C)

²⁷ Then beginning with Moses^(A) and all the Prophets,^(B) he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.^(C)

⁴⁴ He told them, “These are my words^(A) that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets,^(B) and the Psalms^(C) must be fulfilled.”

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael^(A) and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law (and so did the prophets^(B)): Jesus the son of Joseph,^(C) from Nazareth.”^(D)

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.
