⁷ And he called the name of the place ^(A)Massah^[a] and ^(B)Meribah,^[b] because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

^13 (A)These are the waters of Meribah,^[a] where the people of Israel quarreled with the Lord, and through them he showed himself holy.

⁶ Why should you harden your hearts as ^(A)the Egyptians and ^(B)Pharaoh hardened their hearts? After he had dealt severely with them, ^(C)did they not send the people away, and they departed?

^16 (A)“You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, ^(B)as you tested him at Massah.

^22 (A)none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ^(B)ten times and have not obeyed my voice,

¹¹ And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people ^(A)despise me? And how long will they not ^(B)believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them?

¹⁵ As it is said,

¹⁶ For ^(B)who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not ^(C)all those who left Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷ And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^(D)whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did he swear that ^(E)they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? ¹⁹ So we see that ^(F)they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
