¹⁰ You crushed Rahab^(A) like one of the slain;
    with your strong arm you scattered^(B) your enemies.

⁶ Send forth lightning^(A) and scatter^(B) the enemy;
    shoot your arrows^(C) and rout them.

²⁷ They performed^(A) his signs^(B) among them,
    his wonders^(C) in the land of Ham.
²⁸ He sent darkness^(D) and made the land dark—
    for had they not rebelled against^(E) his words?
²⁹ He turned their waters into blood,^(F)
    causing their fish to die.^(G)
30 Their land teemed with frogs,^(H)
    which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.
³¹ He spoke,^(I) and there came swarms of flies,^(J)
    and gnats^(K) throughout their country.
³² He turned their rain into hail,^(L)
    with lightning throughout their land;
³³ he struck down their vines^(M) and fig trees^(N)
    and shattered the trees of their country.
³⁴ He spoke,^(O) and the locusts came,^(P)
    grasshoppers^(Q) without number;^(R)
35 they ate up every green thing in their land,
    ate up the produce of their soil.
³⁶ Then he struck down all the firstborn^(S) in their land,
    the firstfruits of all their manhood.
³⁷ He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,^(T)
    and from among their tribes no one faltered.
³⁸ Egypt was glad when they left,
    because dread of Israel^(U) had fallen on them.

³⁹ He spread out a cloud^(V) as a covering,
    and a fire to give light at night.^(W)
40 They asked,^(X) and he brought them quail;^(Y)
    he fed them well with the bread of heaven.^(Z)
41 He opened the rock,^(AA) and water gushed out;
    it flowed like a river in the desert.

⁴² For he remembered his holy promise^(AB)
    given to his servant Abraham.
⁴³ He brought out his people with rejoicing,^(AC)
    his chosen ones with shouts of joy;
⁴⁴ he gave them the lands of the nations,^(AD)
    and they fell heir to what others had toiled^(AE) for—
⁴⁵ that they might keep his precepts
    and observe his laws.^(AF)

Praise the Lord.^[a](AG)

⁴ “I will record Rahab^[a](A) and Babylon
    among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia^(B) too, and Tyre^(C), along with Cush^[b]—
    and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”^[c](D)

⁴³ the day he displayed his signs^(A) in Egypt,
    his wonders^(B) in the region of Zoan.
⁴⁴ He turned their river into blood;^(C)
    they could not drink from their streams.
⁴⁵ He sent swarms of flies^(D) that devoured them,
    and frogs^(E) that devastated them.
⁴⁶ He gave their crops to the grasshopper,^(F)
    their produce to the locust.^(G)
47 He destroyed their vines with hail^(H)
    and their sycamore-figs with sleet.
⁴⁸ He gave over their cattle to the hail,
    their livestock^(I) to bolts of lightning.
⁴⁹ He unleashed against them his hot anger,^(J)
    his wrath, indignation and hostility—
    a band of destroying angels.^(K)
50 He prepared a path for his anger;
    he did not spare them from death
    but gave them over to the plague.
⁵¹ He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,^(L)
    the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.^(M)
52 But he brought his people out like a flock;^(N)
    he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
⁵³ He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
    but the sea engulfed^(O) their enemies.^(P)
54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,
    to the hill country his right hand^(Q) had taken.
⁵⁵ He drove out nations^(R) before them
    and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;^(S)
    he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.

⁵⁶ But they put God to the test
    and rebelled against the Most High;
    they did not keep his statutes.
⁵⁷ Like their ancestors^(T) they were disloyal and faithless,
    as unreliable as a faulty bow.^(U)
58 They angered him^(V) with their high places;^(W)
    they aroused his jealousy with their idols.^(X)
59 When God heard^(Y) them, he was furious;^(Z)
    he rejected Israel^(AA) completely.
⁶⁰ He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,^(AB)
    the tent he had set up among humans.^(AC)
61 He sent the ark of his might^(AD) into captivity,^(AE)
    his splendor into the hands of the enemy.
⁶² He gave his people over to the sword;^(AF)
    he was furious with his inheritance.^(AG)
63 Fire consumed^(AH) their young men,
    and their young women had no wedding songs;^(AI)
64 their priests were put to the sword,^(AJ)
    and their widows could not weep.

⁶⁵ Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,^(AK)
    as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.
⁶⁶ He beat back his enemies;
    he put them to everlasting shame.^(AL)
67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,
    he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;^(AM)
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,^(AN)
    Mount Zion,^(AO) which he loved.
⁶⁹ He built his sanctuary^(AP) like the heights,
    like the earth that he established forever.
⁷⁰ He chose David^(AQ) his servant
    and took him from the sheep pens;
⁷¹ from tending the sheep^(AR) he brought him
    to be the shepherd^(AS) of his people Jacob,
    of Israel his inheritance.
⁷² And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;^(AT)
    with skillful hands he led them.

³⁰ Rebuke the beast^(A) among the reeds,^(B)
    the herd of bulls^(C) among the calves of the nations.
Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver.
    Scatter the nations^(D) who delight in war.^(E)
