27 (A)They performed his signs among them
and miracles in (B)the land of Ham.
28 He (C)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
they (D)did not rebel[a] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
and (E)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
even in (F)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (G)swarms of flies,
(H)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
and fiery (I)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
and (J)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (K)locusts came,
young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (L)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
(M)the firstfruits of all their strength.
37 Then he brought out Israel with (N)silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (O)Egypt was glad when they departed,
for (P)dread of them had fallen upon it.
39 He (Q)spread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
40 (R)They asked, and he (S)brought quail,
and gave them (T)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (U)water gushed out;
it flowed through (V)the desert like a river.
42 For he (W)remembered his holy promise,
and (X)Abraham, his servant.
43 So he brought his people out with joy,
his (Y)chosen ones with (Z)singing.
44 And he (AA)gave them the lands of the nations,
and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (AB)keep his statutes
and (AC)observe his laws.

43 (A)when he performed his (B)signs in Egypt
and his (C)marvels in (D)the fields of Zoan.
44 He (E)turned their rivers to blood,
so that they could not drink of their streams.
45 He sent among them swarms of (F)flies, which devoured them,
and (G)frogs, which destroyed them.
46 He gave their crops to (H)the destroying locust
and the fruit of their labor to the locust.
47 He destroyed their vines with (I)hail
and their sycamores with frost.
48 He gave over their (J)cattle to the hail
and their flocks to thunderbolts.
49 He let loose on them his burning anger,
wrath, indignation, and distress,
a company of (K)destroying angels.
50 He made a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death,
but gave their lives over to the plague.
51 He struck down every (L)firstborn in Egypt,
the firstfruits of their strength in the tents of (M)Ham.
52 Then he led out his people (N)like sheep
and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 (O)He led them in safety, so that they (P)were not afraid,
but (Q)the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 And he brought them to his (R)holy land,
(S)to the mountain which his right hand had (T)won.
55 He (U)drove out nations before them;
he (V)apportioned them for a possession
and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Yet they (W)tested and (X)rebelled against the Most High God
and did not keep his testimonies,
57 but turned away and acted treacherously like their fathers;
they twisted like (Y)a deceitful bow.
58 For they (Z)provoked him to anger with their (AA)high places;
they (AB)moved him to jealousy with their (AC)idols.
59 When God heard, he was full of (AD)wrath,
and he utterly rejected Israel.
60 He (AE)forsook his dwelling at (AF)Shiloh,
the tent where he dwelt among mankind,
61 and delivered his (AG)power to captivity,
his (AH)glory to the hand of the foe.
62 He (AI)gave his people over to the sword
and (AJ)vented his wrath on his heritage.
63 (AK)Fire devoured their young men,
and their young women had no (AL)marriage song.
64 Their (AM)priests fell by the sword,
and their (AN)widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord (AO)awoke as from sleep,
like a strong man shouting because of wine.
66 And he (AP)put his adversaries to rout;
he put them to everlasting shame.
67 He rejected the tent of (AQ)Joseph;
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,
Mount Zion, which he (AR)loves.
69 He (AS)built his sanctuary like the high heavens,
like the earth, which he has founded forever.
70 He (AT)chose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
71 from (AU)following the nursing ewes he brought him
to (AV)shepherd Jacob his people,
Israel his (AW)inheritance.
72 With (AX)upright heart he shepherded them
and (AY)guided them with his skillful hand.

Moses and Aaron Before Pharaoh
7 And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like (A)God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your (B)prophet. 2 (C)You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. 3 But (D)I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I (E)multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. 5 The Egyptians (F)shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” 6 Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them. 7 Now Moses was (G)eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh says to you, (H)‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’” 10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the (I)magicians of Egypt, also (J)did the same by their secret arts. 12 For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Still (K)Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, (L)as the Lord had said.
The First Plague: Water Turned to Blood
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh's heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go. 15 (M)Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water. Stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand (N)the staff that turned into a (O)serpent.
