²⁹ Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me^(A) and keep all my commands^(B) always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!^(C)

¹² This calls for patient endurance^(A) on the part of the people of God^(B) who keep his commands^(C) and remain faithful to Jesus.

³ In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.^(A) And his commands are not burdensome,^(B)

⁹ Only be careful,^(A) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach^(B) them to your children^(C) and to their children after them.

²² and receive from him anything we ask,^(A) because we keep his commands^(B) and do what pleases him.^{(C) 23} And this is his command: to believe^(D) in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,^(E) and to love one another as he commanded us.^{(F) 24} The one who keeps God’s commands^(G) lives in him,^(H) and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.^(I)

²¹ Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.^(A) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,^(B) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

²² Then Judas^(C) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”^(D)

²³ Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.^(E) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.^{(F) 24} Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.^(G)
