11 Then he remembered (A)the days of old,
    of Moses and his people.[a]
(B)Where is he who brought them up out of the sea
with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is he who put in the midst of them
    his Holy Spirit,
12 who caused his glorious arm
to go at the right hand of Moses,
(C)who divided the waters before them
(D)to make for himself an everlasting name,
13     who led them through the depths?
Like a horse in the desert,
    they did not stumble.
14 Like livestock that go down into the valley,
(E)the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest.
So you led your people,
(F)to make for yourself a glorious name.

11 (A)I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd (B)lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is (C)a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and (D)leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and (E)scatters them. 13 He flees because (F)he is a hired hand and (G)cares nothing for the sheep. 14 (H)I am the good shepherd. (I)I know my own and (J)my own know me, 15 (K)just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and (L)I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And (M)I have other sheep that are not of this fold. (N)I must bring them also, and (O)they will listen to my voice. So there will be (P)one flock, (Q)one shepherd. 17 (R)For this reason the Father loves me, (S)because (T)I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 (U)No one takes it from me, but (V)I lay it down (W)of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and (X)I have authority to take it up again. (Y)This charge I have received from my Father.”

19 (Z)There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them said, (AA)“He has a demon, and (AB)is insane; why listen to him?” 21 Others said, “These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. (AC)Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

I and the Father Are One

22 At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple, (AD)in the colonnade of Solomon. 24 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are (AE)the Christ, (AF)tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. (AG)The works that I do (AH)in my Father's name bear witness about me, 26 but (AI)you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 (AJ)My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 (AK)I give them eternal life, and (AL)they will never perish, and (AM)no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, (AN)who has given them to me,[a] (AO)is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of (AP)the Father's hand. 30 (AQ)I and the Father are one.”

31 (AR)The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” 33 The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but (AS)for blasphemy, because you, being a man, (AT)make yourself God.” 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in (AU)your Law, (AV)‘I said, you are gods’? 35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be (AW)broken— 36 do you say of him whom (AX)the Father consecrated and (AY)sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because (AZ)I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 (BA)If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; 38 but if I do them, (BB)even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that (BC)the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” 39 (BD)Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.

40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place (BE)where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. 41 And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but (BF)everything that John said about this man was true.” 42 And (BG)many believed in him there.

The Lord God Will Seek Them Out

11 “For thus says the Lord God: (A)Behold, I, I (B)myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on (C)a day of clouds and (D)thick darkness. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples (E)and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on (F)the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 (G)I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. (H)There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15 (I)I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, (J)and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. 16 (K)I will seek the lost, (L)and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and (M)the fat and the strong I will destroy.[a] I will feed them in justice.

17 “As for you, my flock, thus says the Lord God: (N)Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and (O)male goats. 18 Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture; and to drink of (P)clear water, that you must muddy the rest of the water with your feet? 19 And must my sheep eat what you have trodden with your feet, and drink what you have muddied with your feet?

20 “Therefore, thus says the Lord God to them: Behold, I, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21 Because you push with side and shoulder, and (Q)thrust at all the (R)weak with your horns, till you have scattered them abroad, 22 I will rescue[b] my flock; (S)they shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23 And (T)I will set up over them one shepherd, (U)my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24 And (V)I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. (W)I am the Lord; I have spoken.

The Lord's Covenant of Peace

25 (X)“I will make with them a covenant of peace and (Y)banish wild beasts from the land, (Z)so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. 26 And I will make them and the places all around my hill (AA)a blessing, and (AB)I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be (AC)showers of blessing. 27 (AD)And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, (AE)and they shall be secure in their land. And (AF)they shall know that I am the Lord, when (AG)I break the bars of their yoke, and (AH)deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. 28 (AI)They shall no more be a prey to the nations, (AJ)nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. (AK)They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. 29 And I will provide for them (AL)renowned plantations so that (AM)they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer (AN)suffer the reproach of the nations. 30 And they shall know that (AO)I am the Lord their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord God. 31 And you are my sheep, (AP)human sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Lord God.”

Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning (A)the shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. (B)Behold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord. (C)Then I will gather the remnant of my flock (D)out of all the countries where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, (E)and they shall be fruitful and multiply. (F)I will set shepherds over them who will care for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be missing, declares the Lord.
