²⁵ But when it came before the king, he gave orders in writing ^(A)that his evil plan that he had devised against the Jews ^(B)should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

³² The Lord will ^(A)bring back his bloody deeds on his own head, because, without the knowledge of my father David, he attacked and killed with the sword two men ^(B)more righteous and better than himself, ^(C)Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and ^(D)Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.

^3 (A)The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was badly wounded by the archers. ^4 (B)Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these ^(C)uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, ^(D)for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword ^(E)and fell upon it.

¹⁹ Moreover, the Lord will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you ^(A)and your sons shall be with me. The Lord will give the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”

¹⁰ And David said, ^(A)“As the Lord lives, ^(B)the Lord will strike him, or ^(C)his day will come to die, ^(D)or he will go down into battle and perish.

^12 (A)May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you. ¹³ As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness.’ But my hand shall not be against you.
