Psalm 57^[a](A)

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam.^[b] When he had fled from Saul into the cave.^(B)

⁶ He told them, “Consider carefully what you do,^(A) because you are not judging for mere mortals^(B) but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. ⁷ Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice^(C) or partiality^(D) or bribery.”

Judges

¹⁸ Appoint judges^(A) and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.^{(B) 19} Do not pervert justice^(C) or show partiality.^(D) Do not accept a bribe,^(E) for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.

¹⁵ So I took^(A) the leading men of your tribes,^(B) wise and respected men,^(C) and appointed them to have authority over you—as commanders^(D) of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.^{(E) 16} And I charged your judges at that time, “Hear the disputes between your people and judge^(F) fairly,^(G) whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.^(H)

²¹ At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.

When the high priest and his associates^(A) arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin^(B)—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles.

The Burial of Jesus^(A)

⁵⁰ Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, ⁵¹ who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.^(B)
