¹² Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem to go to ^(A)the land of Benjamin ^(B)to receive his portion there ^(C)among the people.

²¹ After they had gone, the men came up out of the well, and went and told King David. They said to David, ^(A)“Arise, and go quickly over the water, for thus and so has Ahithophel counseled against you.” ²² Then David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they crossed the Jordan. By daybreak not one was left who had not crossed the Jordan.

¹⁴ Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us ^(A)flee, or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom. Go quickly, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down ruin on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”

David Flees to the Philistines

27 Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.”
