⁹ For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life^(A) so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.^(B)

¹⁰ You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister^[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt?^(C) For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.^{(D) 11} It is written:

¹² So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.^(G)

The Judgment of the Dead

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne^(A) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,^(B) and there was no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(C) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(D) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(E) The dead were judged^(F) according to what they had done^(G) as recorded in the books.

⁵ But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath^(A), when his righteous judgment^(B) will be revealed.
