    with ^(B)flattering lips and ^(C)a double heart they speak.

^8 (A)Their tongue is a deadly arrow;
    ^(B)it speaks deceitfully;
with his mouth ^(C)each speaks peace to his neighbor,
    but in his heart ^(D)he plans an ambush for him.
^9 (E)Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord,
    and shall I not avenge myself
    on a nation such as this?

^9 (A)Do not sweep my soul away with sinners,
    nor my life with bloodthirsty men,

^23 (A)Like the ^(B)glaze^[a] covering an earthen vessel
    are fervent lips with an evil heart.
²⁴ Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips
    and harbors deceit in his heart;
^25 (C)when he speaks graciously, believe him not,
    for there are ^(D)seven abominations in his heart;
²⁶ though his hatred be covered with deception,
    his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

⁴ They only plan to thrust him down from his ^(A)high position.
    They take pleasure in falsehood.
^(B)They bless with their mouths,
