A Church Divided Over Leaders

¹⁰ I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,^[a](A) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you,^(B) but that you be perfectly united^(C) in mind and thought.

Suffering for Doing Good

⁸ Finally, all of you, be like-minded,^(A) be sympathetic, love one another,^(B) be compassionate and humble.^(C)

Concluding Exhortations

13 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.^(A)

² then make my joy complete^(A) by being like-minded,^(B) having the same love, being one^(C) in spirit and of one mind. ³ Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.^(D) Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,^{(E) 4} not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.^(F)

⁵ In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:^(G)

³ Make every effort to keep the unity^(A) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.^{(B) 4} There is one body^(C) and one Spirit,^(D) just as you were called to one hope when you were called^(E); ⁵ one Lord,^(F) one faith, one baptism; ⁶ one God and Father of all,^(G) who is over all and through all and in all.^(H)

³⁵ By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”^(A)

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life,^(A) because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.^{(B) 15} Anyone who hates a brother or sister^(C) is a murderer,^(D) and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.^(E)

¹⁶ This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.^(F) And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.^{(G) 17} If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them,^(H) how can the love of God be in that person?^{(I) 18} Dear children,^(J) let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.^(K)

¹⁹ This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence:
