⁵ Those who sow with tears^(A)
    will reap^(B) with songs of joy.^(C)

¹⁰     and those the Lord has rescued^(A) will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;^(B)
    everlasting joy^(C) will crown their heads.
Gladness^(D) and joy will overtake them,
    and sorrow and sighing will flee away.^(E)

⁴ Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.^(A)

²³ Be glad, people of Zion,
    rejoice^(A) in the Lord your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
    because he is faithful.^(B)
He sends you abundant showers,^(C)
    both autumn^(D) and spring rains,^(E) as before.

⁹ They will come with weeping;^(A)
    they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead^(B) them beside streams of water^(C)
    on a level^(D) path where they will not stumble,
because I am Israel’s father,^(E)
    and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

¹⁰ “Hear the word of the Lord, you nations;
    proclaim it in distant coastlands:^(F)
‘He who scattered^(G) Israel will gather^(H) them
    and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.’^(I)
11 For the Lord will deliver Jacob
    and redeem^(J) them from the hand of those stronger^(K) than they.
¹² They will come and shout for joy^(L) on the heights^(M) of Zion;
    they will rejoice in the bounty^(N) of the Lord—
the grain, the new wine and the olive oil,^(O)
    the young of the flocks^(P) and herds.
They will be like a well-watered garden,^(Q)
    and they will sorrow^(R) no more.
¹³ Then young women will dance and be glad,
    young men and old as well.
I will turn their mourning^(S) into gladness;
    I will give them comfort^(T) and joy^(U) instead of sorrow.

“I will praise^(B) you, Lord.
    Although you were angry with me,
your anger has turned away^(C)
    and you have comforted^(D) me.
² Surely God is my salvation;^(E)
    I will trust^(F) and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself,^(G) is my strength^(H) and my defense^[a];
    he has become my salvation.^(I)”
³ With joy you will draw water^(J)
    from the wells^(K) of salvation.
