57 The righteous perish,^(A)
    and no one takes it to heart;^(B)
the devout are taken away,
    and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
    to be spared from evil.^(C)

¹³ rebellion^(A) and treachery against the Lord,
    turning our backs^(B) on our God,
inciting revolt and oppression,^(C)
    uttering lies^(D) our hearts have conceived.
¹⁴ So justice^(E) is driven back,
    and righteousness^(F) stands at a distance;
truth^(G) has stumbled in the streets,
    honesty cannot enter.
¹⁵ Truth^(H) is nowhere to be found,
    and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.

The Lord looked and was displeased
    that there was no justice.^(I)

²¹ See how the faithful city
    has become a prostitute!^(A)
She once was full of justice;
    righteousness^(B) used to dwell in her—
    but now murderers!^(C)
22 Your silver has become dross,^(D)
    your choice wine is diluted with water.

⁵ I looked, but there was no one^(A) to help,
    I was appalled that no one gave support;
so my own arm^(B) achieved salvation for me,
    and my own wrath sustained me.^(C)
