24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices (A)together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, (B)who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant,[a] said by the Holy Spirit,

(C)“‘Why did the Gentiles rage,
    and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth set themselves,
    and (D)the rulers were gathered together,
    against the Lord and against his (E)Anointed’[b]

27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your (F)holy servant Jesus, (G)whom you anointed, both (H)Herod and (I)Pontius Pilate, along (J)with the Gentiles and (K)the peoples of Israel, 28 (L)to do whatever your hand and (M)your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, (N)look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all (O)boldness, 30 while (P)you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed (Q)through the name of your (R)holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, (S)the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and (T)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and (U)continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

They Had Everything in Common

32 Now the full number of those who believed were of (V)one heart and (W)soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but (X)they had everything in common. 33 And with great (Y)power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and (Z)great grace was upon them all.

Hezekiah's Prayer

14 Hezekiah received (B)the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said: “O Lord, the God of Israel, (C)enthroned above the cherubim, (D)you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. 16 (E)Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; (F)open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent (G)to mock the living God. 17 Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands 18 and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods, (H)but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed.

15 Now if you are ready when (A)you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good.[a] But if you do not worship, (B)you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And (C)who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”

16 (D)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If this be so, (E)our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.[b] 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to deliver their lands out of my hand? 14 Who among all the gods of those nations that my fathers devoted to destruction was able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand? 15 Now, therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this fashion, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand!’”

On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with (A)Annas the high priest and (B)Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, (C)“By what power or (D)by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, (E)filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today (F)concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that (G)by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, (H)whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 (I)This Jesus[a] is the stone that was (J)rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is (K)salvation (L)in no one else, for (M)there is no other (N)name under heaven given among men[c] by which we must be saved.”

10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where (A)he had windows in his upper chamber open (B)toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees (C)three times a day and prayed and (D)gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously. 11 Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God. 12 Then they (E)came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, “O king! Did you not sign (F)an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The thing stands fast, according to the law of (G)the Medes and Persians, (H)which cannot be revoked.” 13 Then they answered and said before the king, (I)“Daniel, who is one (J)of the exiles (K)from Judah, (L)pays no attention to you, O king, or (M)the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition (N)three times a day.”

14 Then (O)the king, when he heard these words, (P)was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him. 15 Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no (Q)injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed.”

16 Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared[a] to Daniel, “May (R)your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!” 17 (S)And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, (T)and the king sealed it (U)with his own signet and with the signet of his (V)lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. 18 Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; (W)no diversions were brought to him, and (X)sleep fled from him.

19 Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. 20 As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of (Y)the living God, (Z)has your God, whom you serve continually, (AA)been able to deliver you from the lions?” 21 Then Daniel said to the king, (AB)“O king, live forever! 22 My God (AC)sent his angel (AD)and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless (AE)before him; (AF)and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” 23 Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and (AG)no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. 24 And the king commanded, and (AH)those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions—they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.

25 Then King Darius wrote to all (AI)the peoples, nations, and languages (AJ)that dwell in all the earth: (AK)“Peace be multiplied to you. 26 (AL)I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion (AM)people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel,

for (AN)he is (AO)the living God,
    enduring forever;
his kingdom shall never be destroyed,
    (AP)and his dominion shall be (AQ)to the end.
27 He delivers and rescues;
    he works (AR)signs and wonders
    in heaven and on earth,
he who has (AS)saved Daniel
    from the power of the lions.”

28 So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and (AT)the reign of (AU)Cyrus the Persian.

12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard. 13 Now therefore (C)mend your ways and your deeds, (D)and obey the voice of the Lord your God, (E)and the Lord will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you. 14 (F)But as for me, behold, I am in your hands.
