The Lord Delivers Jerusalem

20 Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven. 21 And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with (A)shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword. 22 So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies, and he provided for them on every side.

Look to Abraham your father
    and to Sarah who bore you;
for (A)he was but one when I called him,
    that I might bless him and multiply him.
For the Lord (B)comforts Zion;
    he comforts all her waste places
and makes her wilderness like (C)Eden,
    her desert like (D)the garden of the Lord;
(E)joy and gladness will be found in her,

(F)“Give attention to me, my people,
    and give ear to me, my nation;
(G)for a law[a] will go out from me,
    and I will set my justice for a light to the peoples.
(H)My righteousness draws near,
    my salvation has gone out,
    and my arms will judge the peoples;
(I)the coastlands hope for me,
    and for my arm they wait.
(J)Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
    and look at the earth beneath;
(K)for the heavens vanish like smoke,
    the earth will wear out like a garment,
    and they who dwell in it will die in like manner;[b]
(L)but my salvation will be forever,
    and my righteousness will never be dismayed.

(M)“Listen to me, you who know righteousness,
    the people (N)in whose heart is my law;
(O)fear not the reproach of man,

    O (T)arm of the Lord;
awake, (U)as in days of old,
    the generations of long ago.
Was it not you who cut (V)Rahab in pieces,
    who pierced (W)the dragon?
10 (X)Was it not you who dried up the sea,
