Trust in the Name of the Lord Our God

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

20 May the Lord (A)answer you in the day of trouble!
    May (B)the name of the God of Jacob (C)protect you!
May he send you help from (D)the sanctuary
    and give you support from (E)Zion!
May he (F)remember all your offerings
    and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah

May he (G)grant you your heart's desire
    and fulfill all your plans!
May we shout for joy over (H)your salvation,
    and in the name of our God set up our (I)banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!

Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
    he will answer him from his holy heaven
    with (J)the saving might of his right hand.
Some trust in (K)chariots and some in (L)horses,
    (M)but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They collapse and fall,
    but we rise and stand upright.

O Lord, save (N)the king!
    May he answer us when we call.

The King Rejoices in the Lord's Strength

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

21 O Lord, in your (O)strength the king rejoices,
    and in your (P)salvation how greatly he exults!
You have (Q)given him his heart's desire
    and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
For you (R)meet him with rich blessings;
    you set (S)a crown of (T)fine gold upon his head.
He asked life of you; you (U)gave it to him,
    (V)length of days forever and ever.
His (W)glory is great through your salvation;
    (X)splendor and majesty you bestow on him.
For you make him most blessed forever;[a]
    you make him glad with the (Y)joy of your presence.
For the king trusts in the Lord,
    and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be (Z)moved.

Your hand will (AA)find out all your enemies;
    your right hand will find out those who hate you.
You will make them as (AB)a blazing oven
    when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his (AC)wrath,
    and (AD)fire will consume them.
10 You (AE)will destroy their (AF)descendants from the earth,
    and their offspring from among the children of man.
11 Though they plan evil against you,
    though they (AG)devise mischief, they will not succeed.
12 For you will put them (AH)to flight;
    you will (AI)aim at their faces with your bows.

13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength!
    We will sing and praise your power.

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

22 (AJ)My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so (AK)far from saving me, from the words of my (AL)groaning?
O my God, I cry by (AM)day, but you do not answer,
    and by night, but I find no rest.

Yet you are (AN)holy,
    (AO)enthroned on (AP)the praises[b] of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they (AQ)cried and were rescued;
    in you they (AR)trusted and were not put to shame.

But I am (AS)a worm and not a man,
    (AT)scorned by mankind and (AU)despised by the people.
All who see me (AV)mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they (AW)wag their heads;
(AX)“He trusts in the Lord; let him (AY)deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he (AZ)delights in him!”

Yet you are he who (BA)took me from the womb;
    you made me trust you at my mother's breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
    and from (BB)my mother's womb you have been my God.
11 Be not (BC)far from me,
    for trouble is near,
    and there is (BD)none to help.

12 Many bulls encompass me;
    (BE)strong bulls of (BF)Bashan surround me;
13 they (BG)open wide their mouths at me,
    like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 I am (BH)poured out like water,
    and all my bones are (BI)out of joint;
my (BJ)heart is like (BK)wax;
    it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is (BL)dried up like a potsherd,
    and my (BM)tongue sticks to my jaws;
    you lay me in the dust of death.

16 For (BN)dogs encompass me;
    a company of evildoers (BO)encircles me;
they have (BP)pierced my hands and feet[c]
17 I can count all my bones—
they (BQ)stare and gloat over me;
18 (BR)they divide my garments among them,
    and for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But you, O Lord, (BS)do not be far off!
    O you my help, (BT)come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
    my precious life from the power of (BU)the dog!
21     Save me from (BV)the mouth of the lion!
You have rescued[d] me from the horns of (BW)the wild oxen!

22 (BX)I will tell of your name to my (BY)brothers;
    in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who (BZ)fear the Lord, praise him!
    All you offspring of Jacob, (CA)glorify him,
    and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
    the affliction of (CB)the afflicted,
and he has not (CC)hidden his face from him,
    but has heard, when he (CD)cried to him.

25 From you comes my praise in the great (CE)congregation;
    my (CF)vows I will (CG)perform before those who fear him.
26 (CH)The afflicted[e] shall (CI)eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
    May your hearts (CJ)live forever!

27 All (CK)the ends of the earth shall remember
    and turn to the Lord,
and all (CL)the families of the nations
    shall worship before you.
28 For (CM)kingship belongs to the Lord,
    and he rules over the nations.

29 All (CN)the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
    before him shall (CO)bow all who go down to the dust,
    even the one who could not (CP)keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
    it shall be told of the Lord to the coming (CQ)generation;
31 they shall (CR)come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet (CS)unborn,
    that he has done it.
