¹⁰ The wicked will see^(A) and be vexed,
    they will gnash their teeth^(B) and waste away;^(C)
    the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.^(D)

⁷ Hopes placed in mortals die with them;^(A)
    all the promise of^[a] their power comes to nothing.^(B)

¹⁷ Give me a sign^(A) of your goodness,
    that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
    for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

⁷ Let them vanish like water that flows away;^(A)
    when they draw the bow, let their arrows fall short.^(B)
8 May they be like a slug that melts away as it moves along,^(C)
    like a stillborn child^(D) that never sees the sun.
