²⁶ Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
So is the ^(A)lazy one to those who send him.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is made fat.

⁴ The ^(A)sluggard does not plow after the autumn,
So he ^[a]begs during the harvest and has nothing.

¹⁶ The sluggard is ^(A)wiser in his own eyes
Than seven men who can ^[a]give a discreet answer.
