4 1 Wisdom and her fruits ought to be searched. 14 The way of the wicked must be refused. 20 By the word of God the heart, eyes, and course of life must be guided.

¹ Hear, O ye children, the instruction of a ^[a]father, and give ear to learn understanding.

²⁰ ¶ My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not thy mother’s instruction.

^13 (A)A foolish son is the calamity of his father, ^(B)and the contentions of a wife are like a continual ^[a]dropping.

¹⁴ House and riches are the inheritance of the fathers: but a ^(A)prudent wife cometh of the Lord.

²⁸ Thou shalt not ^(A)remove the ancient bounds which thy fathers have made.

²² Obey thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

²³ Buy ^[a]the truth, but sell it not: likewise wisdom, instruction, and understanding.

²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise child, shall have joy of him.

²⁵ Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

³ A man that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but ^(A)he that feedeth harlots wasteth his substance.
