²¹ My son, ^(A)let them not deviate from your eyes;
Guard sound wisdom and discretion,
²² So they will be ^(B)life for your soul
And ^(C)grace for your neck.
²³ Then you will ^(D)walk in your way securely
And your foot will not ^(E)stumble.
²⁴ When you ^(F)lie down, you will not be in dread;
You will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant.
^25 (G)Do not be afraid of sudden dread
Nor of the ^(H)storm of the wicked when it comes;
²⁶ For Yahweh will be ^[a]your confidence
And will ^(I)keep your foot from being caught.

⁶ The righteousness of the upright will deliver them,
But the treacherous will ^(A)be captured by their own desire.

⁸ The righteous is rescued from ^[a]distress,
But the wicked ^[b]takes his place.

¹⁵ If one becomes a ^(A)guarantor for a stranger, he will surely suffer,
But he who hates ^[a]striking hands in pledge is secure.

⁶ The ^(A)words of the wicked lie in wait for blood,
But the ^(B)mouth of the upright will deliver them.
⁷ The ^(C)wicked are overthrown and are no more,
But the ^(D)house of the righteous will stand.

¹³ The snare of an evil man is in the transgression of his lips,
But the ^(A)righteous man will come out from distress.

^21 (A)No misfortune befalls the righteous,
But the wicked are filled with calamity.

³ The one who ^(A)guards his mouth keeps his soul;
The one who ^(B)opens wide his lips ^[a]comes to ruin.

¹⁴ The ^[a]instruction of the wise is a ^(A)fountain of life,
To turn aside from the ^(B)snares of death.
