⁵ A wise man will hear and ^(A)increase in learning,
And a ^(B)man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

¹³ On ^(A)the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found,
But ^(B)a rod is for the back of him who lacks ^[a]understanding.

³³ Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding,
But in the ^[a]hearts of fools it is made known.

¹⁴ The ^(A)mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

²⁴ The ^(A)path of life leads upward for the wise
That he may keep away from ^[a]Sheol below.

²¹ The ^(A)wise in heart will be called understanding,
And sweetness of ^[a]speech ^(B)increases ^[b]persuasiveness.

¹⁵ The ^[a](A)mind of the prudent acquires knowledge,
And the ^(B)ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

^25 (A)Strike a scoffer and the ^[a]naive may become shrewd,
But ^(B)reprove one who has understanding and he will ^[b]gain knowledge.

² By the transgression of a land ^(A)many are its princes,
But ^(B)by a man of understanding and knowledge, so it endures.
