⁴ To give ^(A)prudence to the ^[a]naive,
To the youth ^(B)knowledge and discretion,
⁵ A wise man will hear and ^(C)increase in learning,
And a ^(D)man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,
⁶ To understand a proverb and a figure,
The words of the wise and their ^(E)riddles.

³ For if you cry for discernment,
^[a]Lift your voice for understanding;
⁴ If you seek her as ^(A)silver
And search for her as for ^(B)hidden treasures;
⁵ Then you will discern the ^(C)fear of the Lord
And discover the knowledge of God.
⁶ For ^(D)the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

¹⁰ For ^(A)wisdom will enter your heart
And ^(B)knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
¹¹ Discretion will ^(C)guard you,
Understanding will watch over you,
¹² To ^(D)deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks ^(E)perverse things;

⁹ “They are all ^(A)straightforward to him who understands,
And right to those who ^(B)find knowledge.
¹⁰ “Take my ^(C)instruction and not silver,
And knowledge rather than choicest gold.
¹¹ “For wisdom is ^(D)better than ^[a]jewels;
And ^(E)all desirable things cannot compare with her.
