²⁴You are your own worst enemy if you take part in a crime. You will not be able to tell the truth even when people threaten you.

²⁵Fear can be a trap, but if you trust in the Lord, you will be safe.

²⁶Many people want the friendship of a ruler, but the Lord is the only one who judges people fairly.

Proverbs 29:24-26

New International Version

²⁴The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies;
they are put under oath and dare not testify.^(A)

²⁵Fear^(B) of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord^(C) is kept safe.^(D)

²⁶Many seek an audience with a ruler,^(E)
but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.^(F)
