10 The proverbs of Solomon:

A Wise Son Is Righteous

A wise son makes his father happy,
but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

Treasures gained dishonestly profit no one,
but righteousness rescues from death.
The Lord will not allow a righteous person to starve,
but he intentionally ignores the desires of a wicked person.

Lazy hands bring poverty,
but hard-working hands bring riches.
Whoever gathers in the summer is a wise son.
Whoever sleeps at harvest time brings shame.

Blessings cover the head of a righteous person,
but violence covers the mouths of wicked people.

The name of a righteous person remains blessed,
but the names of wicked people will rot away.

Proverbs Concerning the Mouth

The one who is truly wise accepts commands,
but the one who talks foolishly will be thrown down headfirst.
Whoever lives honestly will live securely,
but whoever lives dishonestly will be found out.
10 Whoever winks with his eye causes heartache.
The one who talks foolishly will be thrown down headfirst.
11 The mouth of a righteous person is a fountain of life,
but the mouths of wicked people conceal violence.
12 Hate starts quarrels,
but love covers every wrong.

13 Wisdom is found on the lips of a person who has understanding,
but a rod is for the back of one without sense.
14 Those who are wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a stubborn fool invites ruin.
15 The rich person’s wealth is ⌞his⌟ strong city.
Poverty ruins the poor.
16 A righteous person’s reward is life.
A wicked person’s harvest is sin.
17 Whoever practices discipline is on the way to life,
but whoever ignores a warning strays.

18 Whoever conceals hatred has lying lips.
Whoever spreads slander is a fool.
19 Sin is unavoidable when there is much talk,
but whoever seals his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of a righteous person is pure silver.
The hearts of wicked people are worthless.
21 The lips of a righteous person feed many,
but stubborn fools die because they have no sense.

22 It is the Lord’s blessing that makes a person rich,
and hard work adds nothing to it.
23 Like the laughter of a fool when he carries out an evil plan,
so is wisdom to a person who has understanding.

Los tesoros de maldad no serán de provecho;

Mas la justicia libra de muerte.

Jehová no dejará padecer hambre al justo;

Mas la iniquidad lanzará a los impíos.

La mano negligente empobrece;

Mas la mano de los diligentes enriquece.

El que recoge en el verano es hombre entendido;

Hay bendiciones sobre la cabeza del justo;

La memoria del justo será bendita;

El sabio de corazón recibirá los mandamientos;

Mas el necio de labios caerá.

El que camina en integridad anda confiado;

10 El que guiña el ojo acarrea tristeza;

Y el necio de labios será castigado.

11 Manantial de vida es la boca del justo;

12 El odio despierta rencillas;

13 En los labios del prudente se halla sabiduría;

14 Los sabios guardan la sabiduría;

15 Las riquezas del rico son su ciudad fortificada;

16 La obra del justo es para vida;

17 Camino a la vida es guardar la instrucción;

Pero quien desecha la reprensión, yerra.

18 El que encubre el odio es de labios mentirosos;

Y el que propaga calumnia es necio.

19 En las muchas palabras no falta pecado;

20 Plata escogida es la lengua del justo;

23 El hacer maldad es como una diversión al insensato;

The Value of Righteousness

11 Dishonest scales are disgusting to the Lord,
but accurate weights are pleasing to him.
Arrogance comes,
then comes shame,
but wisdom remains with humble people.
Integrity guides decent people,
but hypocrisy leads treacherous people to ruin.

Riches are of no help on the day of fury,
but righteousness saves from death.
The righteousness of innocent people makes their road smooth,
but wicked people fall by their own wickedness.
Decent people are saved by their righteousness,
but treacherous people are trapped by their own greed.
At the death of a wicked person, hope vanishes.
Moreover, his confidence in strength vanishes.

A righteous person is rescued from trouble,
and a wicked person takes his place.
With his talk a godless person can ruin his neighbor,
but righteous people are rescued by knowledge.

10 When righteous people prosper, a city is glad.
When wicked people die, there are songs of joy.
11 With the blessing of decent people a city is raised up,
but by the words of wicked people, it is torn down.

12 A person who despises a neighbor has no sense,
but a person who has understanding keeps quiet.
13 Whoever gossips gives away secrets,
but whoever is trustworthy in spirit can keep a secret.
14 A nation will fall when there is no direction,
but with many advisers there is victory.
15 Whoever guarantees a stranger’s loan will get into trouble,
but whoever hates the closing of a deal remains secure.
16 A gracious woman wins respect,
but ruthless men gain riches.
17 A merciful person helps himself,
but a cruel person hurts himself.
18 A wicked person earns dishonest wages,
but whoever spreads righteousness earns honest pay.
19 As righteousness leads to life,
so whoever pursues evil finds his own death.

20 Devious people are disgusting to the Lord,
but he is delighted with those whose ways are innocent.
21 Certainly, an evil person will not go unpunished,
but the descendants of righteous people will escape.
22 ⌞Like⌟ a gold ring in a pig’s snout,
⌞so⌟ is a beautiful woman who lacks good taste.
23 The desire of righteous people ends only in good,
but the hope of wicked people ends only in fury.

24 One person spends freely and yet grows richer,
while another holds back what he owes and yet grows poorer.
25 A generous person will be made rich,
and whoever satisfies others will himself be satisfied.[a]
26 People will curse the one who hoards grain,
but a blessing will be upon the head of the one who sells it.

27 Whoever eagerly seeks good searches for good will,
but whoever looks for evil finds it.
28 Whoever trusts his riches will fall,
but righteous people will flourish like a green leaf.
29 Whoever brings trouble upon his family inherits ⌞only⌟ wind,
and that stubborn fool becomes a slave to the wise in heart.
30 The fruit of a righteous person is a tree of life,
and a winner of souls is wise.
31 If the righteous person is rewarded on earth,
how much more the wicked person and the sinner!
12 Whoever loves discipline loves to learn,
but whoever hates correction is a dumb animal.
A good person obtains favor from the Lord,
but the Lord condemns everyone who schemes.
A person cannot stand firm on a foundation of wickedness,
and the roots of righteous people cannot be moved.
A wife with strength of character is the crown of her husband,
but the wife who disgraces him is like bone cancer.

The thoughts of righteous people are fair.
The advice of wicked people is treacherous.
The words of wicked people are a deadly ambush,
but the words [b] of decent people rescue.
Overthrow wicked people, and they are no more,
but the families of righteous people continue to stand.

A person will be praised based on his insight,
but whoever has a twisted mind will be despised.
Better to be unimportant and have a slave
than to act important and have nothing to eat.
10 A righteous person cares ⌞even⌟ about the life of his animals,
but the compassion of wicked people is ⌞nothing but⌟ cruelty.
11 Whoever works his land will have plenty to eat,
but the one who chases unrealistic dreams has no sense.
12 A wicked person delights in setting a trap for ⌞other⌟ evil people,
but the roots of righteous people produce ⌞fruit⌟.
13 An evil person is trapped by his own sinful talk,
but a righteous person escapes from trouble.
14 One person enjoys good things as a result of his speaking ability.
Another is paid according to what his hands have accomplished.

15 A stubborn fool considers his own way the right one,
but a person who listens to advice is wise.
16 When a stubborn fool is irritated, he shows it immediately,
but a sensible person hides the insult.

17 A truthful witness speaks honestly,
but a lying witness speaks deceitfully.
18 Careless words stab like a sword,
but the words of wise people bring healing.
19 The word of truth lasts forever,
but lies last only a moment.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plan evil,
but joy belongs to those who advise peace.

21 No ⌞lasting⌟ harm comes to a righteous person,
but wicked people have lots of trouble.
22 Lips that lie are disgusting to the Lord,
but honest people are his delight.
23 A sensible person ⌞discreetly⌟ hides knowledge,
but foolish minds preach stupidity.
24 Hard-working hands gain control,
but lazy hands do slave labor.
25 A person’s anxiety will weigh him down,
but an encouraging word makes him joyful.
26 A righteous person looks out for his neighbor,
but the path of wicked people leads others astray.
27 A lazy hunter does not catch his prey,
but a hard-working person becomes wealthy.
28 Everlasting life is on the way of righteousness.
Eternal death is not along its path.

  6. Proverbs 12:27 Or but diligence is precious wealth

11 A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.

When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

12 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

11 El peso falso es abominación a Jehová;

Mas la pesa cabal le agrada.

Cuando viene la soberbia, viene también la deshonra;

Mas con los humildes está la sabiduría.

La integridad de los rectos los encaminará;

No aprovecharán las riquezas en el día de la ira;

Mas la justicia librará de muerte.

La justicia del perfecto enderezará su camino;

Mas el impío por su impiedad caerá.

La justicia de los rectos los librará;

Cuando muere el hombre impío, perece su esperanza;

Y la expectación de los malos perecerá.

El justo es librado de la tribulación;

Mas el impío entra en lugar suyo.

El hipócrita con la boca daña a su prójimo;

10 En el bien de los justos la ciudad se alegra;

Mas cuando los impíos perecen hay fiesta.

11 Por la bendición de los rectos la ciudad será engrandecida;

12 El que carece de entendimiento menosprecia a su prójimo;

Mas el hombre prudente calla.

13 El que anda en chismes descubre el secreto;

14 Donde no hay dirección sabia, caerá el pueblo;

15 Con ansiedad será afligido el que sale por fiador de un extraño;

17 A su alma hace bien el hombre misericordioso;

18 El impío hace obra falsa;

20 Abominación son a Jehová los perversos de corazón;

21 Tarde o temprano, el malo será castigado;

23 El deseo de los justos es solamente el bien;

24 Hay quienes reparten, y les es añadido más;

25 El alma generosa será prosperada;

26 Al que acapara el grano, el pueblo lo maldecirá;

27 El que procura el bien buscará favor;

28 El que confía en sus riquezas caerá;

Mas los justos reverdecerán como ramas.

29 El que turba su casa heredará viento;

30 El fruto del justo es árbol de vida;

Y el que gana almas es sabio.

31 Ciertamente el justo será recompensado en la tierra;

12 El que ama la instrucción ama la sabiduría;

El bueno alcanzará favor de Jehová;

El hombre no se afirmará por medio de la impiedad;

La mujer virtuosa es corona de su marido;

Los pensamientos de los justos son rectitud;

Mas los consejos de los impíos, engaño.

Las palabras de los impíos son asechanzas para derramar sangre;

Dios trastornará a los impíos, y no serán más;

Según su sabiduría es alabado el hombre;

10 El justo cuida de la vida de su bestia;

11 El que labra su tierra se saciará de pan;

12 Codicia el impío la red de los malvados;

13 El impío es enredado en la prevaricación de sus labios;

Mas el justo saldrá de la tribulación.

14 El hombre será saciado de bien del fruto de su boca;

15 El camino del necio es derecho en su opinión;

16 El necio al punto da a conocer su ira;

17 El que habla verdad declara justicia;

Mas el testigo mentiroso, engaño.

18 Hay hombres cuyas palabras son como golpes de espada;

19 El labio veraz permanecerá para siempre;

20 Engaño hay en el corazón de los que piensan el mal;

21 Ninguna adversidad acontecerá al justo;

Mas los impíos serán colmados de males.

22 Los labios mentirosos son abominación a Jehová;

23 El hombre cuerdo encubre su saber;

24 La mano de los diligentes señoreará;

Mas la negligencia será tributaria.

25 La congoja en el corazón del hombre lo abate;

Mas la buena palabra lo alegra.

26 El justo sirve de guía a su prójimo;

27 El indolente ni aun asará lo que ha cazado;

28 En el camino de la justicia está la vida;

Y en sus caminos no hay muerte.

Jesus Promises to Send the Holy Spirit

14 “Don’t be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me. My Father’s house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. So how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him ⌞through me⌟ and have seen him ⌞in me⌟.”

Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.”

Jesus replied, “I have been with all of you for a long time. Don’t you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I’m telling you doesn’t come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the things I do.

12 “I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father. 13 I will do anything you ask ⌞the Father⌟ in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son. 14 If you ask me to do something, I will do it.

15 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever. 17 That helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn’t see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.

14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

15 Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos.
