28 El malvado huye aunque nadie lo persiga;
pero el justo vive confiado como un león.
2 Cuando hay rebelión en el país,
los gobernantes se multiplican;
cuando el gobernante es entendido y sensato,
se mantiene el orden.
3 El pobre que oprime a los pobres
es como violenta lluvia que arrasa la cosecha.
4 Los que abandonan la ley alaban a los malvados;
los que la obedecen luchan contra ellos.
5 Los malvados nada entienden de la justicia;
los que buscan al Señor lo entienden todo.
6 Más vale ser pobre, pero íntegro
que rico y perverso.
7 El hijo entendido se sujeta a la ley;
el derrochador deshonra a su padre.
8 El que amasa riquezas mediante intereses y usura,
las acumula para el que se compadece de los pobres.
9 Dios aborrece hasta la oración
del que se niega a obedecer la ley.
10 El que lleva a los justos por el mal camino
caerá en su propia trampa;
pero los íntegros heredarán el bien.
11 El rico se las da de sabio;
el pobre, pero inteligente, se percata.
12 Cuando los justos triunfan, se hace gran fiesta;
cuando los impíos se imponen, todo el mundo se esconde.
13 Quien encubre su pecado jamás prospera;
quien lo confiesa y lo deja, alcanza la misericordia.
14 ¡Dichoso es el hombre que siempre respeta[a] a Dios!
Pero el obstinado caerá en la desgracia.
15 Un león rugiente, un oso agresivo,
es el gobernante malvado que oprime a los pobres.
16 El gobernante falto de juicio es terrible opresor;
el que aborrece las ganancias deshonestas prolonga su vida.
17 El que es perseguido por[b] homicidio
será un fugitivo hasta la muerte.
¡Que nadie le brinde su apoyo!
18 El que es íntegro se mantendrá a salvo;
el de caminos perversos de repente caerá en la fosa.[c]
19 El que trabaja su tierra tendrá abundante comida;
el que sueña despierto[d] solo abundará en pobreza.
20 El hombre fiel recibirá muchas bendiciones;
el que tiene prisa por enriquecerse no quedará impune.
21 No es correcto mostrarse parcial con nadie.
Hay quienes pecan hasta por un mendrugo de pan.
22 El tacaño ansía enriquecerse,
sin saber que la pobreza lo aguarda.
23 A fin de cuentas, más se aprecia
al que reprende que al que adula.
24 El que roba a su padre o a su madre
e insiste en que no ha pecado,
amigo es del destructor.
25 El que es ambicioso provoca peleas,
pero el que confía en el Señor prospera.
26 Necio es el que confía en sí mismo;
el que actúa con sabiduría se pone a salvo.
27 El que ayuda al pobre no pasará necesidad;
el que le niega su ayuda recibirá muchas maldiciones.
28 Cuando triunfan los impíos, la gente busca refugio;
cuando perecen, los justos prosperan.

28 El malvado huye aunque nadie lo persiga,
pero los justos viven confiados como el león.
2 Cuando el país anda mal, los gobernantes aumentan,
pero el buen dirigente sabe mantener el orden.
3 El malvado que oprime a los pobres
es como fuerte lluvia que destruye las cosechas.
4 Los que se apartan de la ley alaban al malvado;
los que la cumplen están en contra de él.
5 Los malvados no entienden nada de la justicia,
pero los que recurren al Señor lo entienden todo.
6 Más vale ser pobre y honrado
que rico y malintencionado.
7 El que cumple la ley de Dios es un hijo inteligente,
pero el que anda con glotones es la vergüenza de su padre.
8 El que amontona riquezas cobrando intereses,
las amontona para el que se compadece de los pobres.
9 Si alguno no quiere atender la ley de Dios,
tampoco Dios soportará sus oraciones.
10 El que lleva a los buenos por mal camino,
caerá en su propia trampa;
pero los hombres intachables recibirán lo mejor.
11 El rico se cree muy sabio,
pero el pobre e inteligente puede ponerlo a prueba.
12 Cuando triunfan los justos, se hace gran fiesta;
cuando triunfan los malvados, la gente se esconde.
13 Al que disimula el pecado, no le irá bien;
pero el que lo confiesa y lo deja, será perdonado.
14 Feliz el hombre que honra siempre al Señor;
pero el terco caerá en la desgracia.
15 Igual que un león rugiente o un oso voraz
es el malvado que gobierna a un pueblo pobre.
16 El gobernante insensato aumenta la opresión;
pero el que no es codicioso tendrá larga vida.
17 El que ha cometido un asesinato
no parará hasta caer en la tumba:
¡que nadie intente detenerlo!
18 El hombre honrado será puesto a salvo,
pero el perverso caerá en la desgracia.
19 Al que cultiva su campo, hasta le sobra comida;
al que anda con ociosos, lo que le sobra es pobreza.
20 Quien es digno de confianza, será alabado;
quien tiene ansias de riquezas, no quedará sin castigo.
21 No está bien discriminar a nadie;
hasta por un pedazo de pan se puede pecar.
22 El ambicioso tiene prisa por ser rico,
y no sabe que sobre él vendrá la pobreza.
23 Con el tiempo, más se aprecia
al que critica que al que alaba.
24 Amigo de criminales
es quien roba a sus padres y alega que no ha pecado.
25 El que mucho ambiciona, provoca peleas;
pero el que confía en el Señor, prospera.
26 Sólo un necio confía en sus propias ideas;
el que actúa con sabiduría saldrá bien librado.
27 Al que ayuda al pobre, nada le faltará;
pero al que le niega su ayuda, mucho se le maldecirá.
28 Cuando triunfan los malvados, la gente se esconde;
cuando les llega su fin, predominan los justos.

2 When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.
3 A ruler[a] who oppresses the poor
is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.
4 Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,
but those who heed it resist them.
5 Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.
6 Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse.(D)
7 A discerning son heeds instruction,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.(E)
8 Whoever increases wealth by taking interest(F) or profit from the poor
amasses it for another,(G) who will be kind to the poor.(H)
9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable.(I)
10 Whoever leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into their own trap,(J)
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.
11 The rich are wise in their own eyes;
one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are.
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;(K)
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.(L)
13 Whoever conceals their sins(M) does not prosper,
but the one who confesses(N) and renounces them finds mercy.(O)
14 Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.
15 Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.
16 A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,
but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign.
17 Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder
will seek refuge(P) in the grave;
let no one hold them back.
18 The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,(Q)
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall(R) into the pit.[b]
19 Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.(S)
20 A faithful person will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.(T)
22 The stingy are eager to get rich
and are unaware that poverty awaits them.(X)
23 Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor
rather than one who has a flattering tongue.(Y)
24 Whoever robs their father or mother(Z)
and says, “It’s not wrong,”
is partner to one who destroys.(AA)
27 Those who give to the poor will lack nothing,(AF)
but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.(AG)
28 When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;(AH)
but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.

But (C)by a man who understands, who knows, so it endures.
3 A (D)poor man who oppresses the lowly
Is a driving rain [b]which leaves no food.
4 Those who forsake the law (E)praise the wicked,
But those who keep the law (F)strive with them.
5 Evil men (G)do not understand justice,
But those who seek Yahweh (H)understand all things.
6 (I)Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than he who is crooked—[c]double dealing—though he be rich.
7 He who observes the law is a son who understands,
But he who befriends (J)gluttons humiliates his father.
8 He who increases his wealth by (K)interest and usury
Gathers it (L)for him who is gracious to the lowly.
9 He who turns away his ear from listening to the law,
Even his (M)prayer is an abomination.
10 He who leads the upright astray in an evil way
Will (N)himself fall into his own pit,
But the (O)blameless will inherit good.
11 The rich man is (P)wise in his own eyes,
But the lowly who understands [d]searches him.
12 When the (Q)righteous exult, there is great honor,
But (R)when the wicked rise, man has to be sought out.
13 He who (S)conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
But he who (T)confesses and forsakes them will receive compassion.
14 How blessed is the man who (U)is always in dread,
But he who (V)hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
15 Like a (W)roaring lion and a rushing bear
Is a (X)wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 A (Y)leader who lacks discernment abounds in oppressions,
But he who hates greedy gain will prolong his days.
17 A man (Z)oppressed with (AA)the bloodguilt of life
Will flee until [e]death; let no one uphold him.
18 He who walks blamelessly will be saved,
But he who is (AB)crooked—[f]double dealing—will fall all at once.
19 (AC)He who cultivates his ground will be (AD)satisfied with food,
But he who pursues empty things will be satisfied with poverty.
20 A (AE)faithful man will abound with blessings,
But he who (AF)makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 To [g](AG)show partiality is not good,
(AH)Even for a piece of bread a man will transgress.
22 A man with an (AI)evil eye (AJ)hurries after wealth
And does not know that want will come upon him.
23 He who (AK)reproves a man will afterward find more favor
Than he who (AL)flatters with the tongue.
24 He who (AM)robs his father or his mother
And says, “It is not a transgression,”
Is the (AN)companion of a man who destroys.
25 An [h]arrogant man (AO)stirs up strife,
But he who (AP)trusts in Yahweh (AQ)will [i]be enriched.
26 He who (AR)trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But he who walks wisely will escape.
27 He who (AS)gives to the poor will never want,
But he who [j]shuts his eyes will have many curses.
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;
But when they perish, the righteous increase.
