28 Cel rău(A) fuge fără să fie urmărit,
dar cel neprihănit îndrăzneşte ca un leu tânăr.
Când este răscoală într-o ţară, sunt mulţi capi,
dar cu un om priceput şi încercat, domnia dăinuieşte.
Un om(B) sărac care apasă pe cei obijduiţi
este ca o rupere de nori care aduce lipsă de pâine.
Cei ce(C) părăsesc Legea laudă pe cel rău,
dar(D) cei ce păzesc Legea se mânie pe el.
Oamenii(E) dedaţi la rău nu înţeleg ce este drept,
dar cei ce(F) caută pe Domnul înţeleg totul.
Mai(G) mult preţuieşte săracul care umblă în neprihănirea lui,
decât bogatul care umblă pe căi sucite.
Cel ce(H) păzeşte legea este un fiu priceput,
dar cel ce(I) umblă cu cei desfrânaţi face ruşine tatălui său.
Cine(J) îşi înmulţeşte avuţiile prin dobândă şi camătă,
le strânge pentru cel ce are milă de săraci.
Dacă cineva îşi întoarce urechea ca să n-asculte Legea,
chiar(K) şi rugăciunea lui este o scârbă.
10 Cine(L) rătăceşte pe oamenii fără prihană pe calea cea rea
cade în groapa pe care a săpat-o,
dar(M) oamenii fără prihană moştenesc fericirea.
11 Omul bogat se crede înţelept,
dar săracul care este priceput îl cercetează.
12 Când(N) biruie cei neprihăniţi, este o mare slavă,
dar când se înalţă cei răi, fiecare se ascunde.
13 Cine(O) îşi ascunde fărădelegile nu propăşeşte,
dar cine le mărturiseşte şi se lasă de ele, capătă îndurare.
14 Ferice de omul care(P) se teme necontenit,
dar(Q) cel ce-şi împietreşte inima cade în nenorocire.
15 Ca un leu(R) care răcneşte şi ca un urs flămând,
aşa este(S) cel rău care stăpâneşte peste un popor sărac.
16 Un voievod fără pricepere îşi înmulţeşte faptele de asuprire,
dar cel ce urăşte lăcomia îşi lungeşte zilele.
17 Un om(T) al cărui cuget este încărcat cu sângele altuia
fuge până la groapă: nimeni să nu-l oprească.
18 Cine(U) umblă în neprihănire găseşte mântuirea,
dar cine(V) umblă pe două căi strâmbe cade într-o groapă.
19 Cine(W) îşi lucrează câmpul are belşug de pâine,
dar cine aleargă după lucruri de nimic are belşug de sărăcie.
20 Un om credincios este năpădit de binecuvântări,
dar(X) cel ce vrea să se îmbogăţească repede nu rămâne nepedepsit.
21 Nu este bine să(Y) cauţi la faţa oamenilor;
chiar pentru(Z) o bucată de pâine poate un om să se dedea la păcat.
22 Un om(AA) pizmaş se grăbeşte să se îmbogăţească,
şi nu ştie că lipsa va veni peste el.
23 Cine(AB) mustră pe alţii găseşte mai multă bunăvoinţă pe urmă,
decât cel cu limba linguşitoare.
24 Cine fură pe tatăl său şi pe mama sa şi zice că nu este un păcat
este tovarăş(AC) cu nimicitorul.
25 Cel lacom(AD) stârneşte certuri,
dar(AE) cel ce se încrede în Domnul este săturat din belşug.
26 Cine se încrede în inima lui este un nebun,
dar cine umblă în înţelepciune va fi mântuit.
27 Cine(AF) dă săracului nu duce lipsă,
dar cine închide ochii este încărcat cu blesteme.
28 Când(AG) se înalţă cei răi, fiecare(AH) se ascunde,
dar, când pier ei, cei buni se înmulţesc.

28 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

10 Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

12 When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

15 As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

16 The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

23 He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

The Righteous Are Bold as a Lion

28 The (A)wicked flee when no one pursues,
But the righteous are bold as a lion.

Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes;
But by a man of understanding and knowledge
Right will be prolonged.

(B)A poor man who oppresses the poor
Is like a driving rain [a]which leaves no food.

(C)Those who forsake the law praise the wicked,
(D)But such as keep the law contend with them.

(E)Evil men do not understand justice,
But (F)those who seek the Lord understand all.

Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son,
But a companion of gluttons shames his father.

One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion
Gathers it for him who will pity the poor.

One who turns away his ear from hearing the law,
(G)Even his prayer is an abomination.

        som förtrycker de fattiga

        kämpar mot dem.

(D) Onda människor förstår inte

    de som söker Herren
        förstår allt.

(E) Bättre vara fattig och leva hederligt
    än rik och gå krokiga vägar.

En förståndig son tar vara på lagen,
    den som umgås med frossare
        drar skam över sin far.

(F) Den som ökar sin förmögenhet
        genom ocker och räntor[c]
    samlar åt en som förbarmar sig
        över de fattiga.

(G) Om någon vänder bort sitt öra
        och inte vill höra lagen,
    då är också hans bön avskyvärd.

10 (H) Den som lurar in de ärliga
    på en ond väg
        faller själv i sin grop,
    men de hederliga
        får det goda till arv.

11 En rik man är vis i egna ögon,
    en fattig med insikt
        genomskådar honom.

12 (I) När de rättfärdiga triumferar
        är härligheten stor,
    när de gudlösa tar makten
        får man leta efter människor.

13 (J) Den som döljer sina brott
        går det inte väl,
    den som bekänner och överger dem
        får barmhärtighet.

14 (K) Salig är den som alltid fruktar Gud,
    den som förhärdar sitt hjärta
        faller i olycka.

15 Som ett rytande lejon
        och en anfallande björn
    är en gudlös härskare
        över ett fattigt folk.

16 (L) En furste med lite förstånd
        brukar mycket våld,
    den som hatar oärlig vinst
        får leva länge.

17 (M) En människa tyngd av blodskuld[d]
    blir flykting ända till sin grav,
        ingen får hjälpa en sådan.

18 (N) Den som lever hederligt blir räddad,
    den som i falskhet går dubbla vägar
        faller på en av dem[e].

19 (O) Den som brukar sin åker
        får bröd så det räcker,
    den som jagar efter tomhet
        får fattigdom så det räcker.

20 (P) En pålitlig man
        får mycket välsignelse,
    den som snabbt vill bli rik
        blir inte ostraffad.

21 (Q) Att vara partisk är inte rätt,
    men många gör orätt för en bit bröd.

22 (R) Den missunnsamme
        strävar efter ägodelar,
    han förstår inte
        att brist ska drabba honom.

23 (S) Den som tillrättavisar en människa
        får uppskattning efteråt,
    mer än den som kommer
        med smicker.

24 (T) Den som plundrar sin far och mor
        och säger: ”Det är ingen synd”,
    han är i lag med fördärvaren.

25 (U) Den snikne skapar gräl,
    den som litar på Herren
        blir rikligen mättad.

26 (V) Den som förlitar sig på sitt hjärta
        är en dåre,
    den som vandrar i vishet
        blir räddad.

27 (W) Den som ger åt den fattige
        ska inget sakna,
    den som blundar
        får många förbannelser.

28 (X) När de gudlösa tar makten
        gömmer sig folk,
    när de förgås
        blir de rättfärdiga många.
