¹² because the Lord disciplines those he loves,^(A)
    as a father the son he delights in.^[a](B)

¹⁷ Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;
    they will bring you the delights you desire.^(A)

²⁴ Whoever spares the rod^(A) hates their children,
    but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline^(B) them.^(C)

¹³ As a father has compassion^(A) on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
