²⁷ As for you, the anointing that you received from him abides in you, so you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, abide in him.^[a](A)

⁵ If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.^(A)

²⁰ But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and all of you have knowledge.^[a](A)

¹⁷ Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.^(A)

¹⁴ Those who are unspiritual^[a] do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.^{(A) 15} Those who are spiritual discern all things, and they are themselves subject to no one else’s scrutiny.

The Purpose of the Parables

¹⁰ When he was alone, those who were around him along with the twelve asked him about the parables. ¹¹ And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret^[a] of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything comes in parables,^{(A) 12} in order that

¹³ And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand all the parables?
