¹³ God judges^[a] those outside. ^(A)“Purge the evil person from among you.”

⁵ you are ^(A)to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so ^(B)that his spirit may be saved ^(C)in the day of the Lord.^[a]

^6 (D)Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that ^(E)a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

⁹ But Sarah ^(A)saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, ^(B)laughing.^{[a] 10} So she said to Abraham, ^(C)“Cast out this slave woman with her son, for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.”

²⁸ And one of the sons of ^(A)Jehoiada, the son of ^(B)Eliashib the high priest, was the son-in-law of ^(C)Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I chased him from me.

Opposition to the Work

4 ^[a] Now when ^(A)Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. ² And he said in the presence of his brothers and of the army of ^(B)Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore it for themselves?^[b] Will they sacrifice? Will they finish up in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, and burned ones at that?” ^3 (C)Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Yes, what they are building—^(D)if a fox goes up on it he will break down their stone wall!”

¹⁷ If he refuses to listen to them, ^(A)tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, ^(B)let him be to you as ^(C)a Gentile and ^(D)a tax collector.
