“Go, you seer!
Flee to the land of Judah.
There eat bread,
And there prophesy.
13 But (A)never again prophesy at Bethel,
(B)For it is the king’s [a]sanctuary,
And it is the royal [b]residence.”

14 Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:

“I was no prophet,
Nor was I (C)a son of a prophet,
But I was a (D)sheepbreeder
And a tender of sycamore fruit.
15 Then the Lord took me [c]as I followed the flock,
And the Lord said to me,
‘Go, (E)prophesy to My people Israel.’

Then said I:

(A)“Ah, Lord God!

And (B)whatever I command you, you shall speak.
(C)Do not be afraid of their faces,
For (D)I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

Then the Lord put forth His hand and (E)touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:

“Behold, I have (F)put My words in your mouth.

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: (A)“I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And (B)I have been with you wherever you have gone, (C)and have [a]cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will (D)plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; (E)nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, 11 (F)since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord [b]tells you (G)that He will make you a [c]house.

12 (H)“When your days are fulfilled and you (I)rest with your fathers, (J)I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 (K)He shall build a house for My name, and I will (L)establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 (M)I will be his Father, and he shall be (N)My son. 20 (D)Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. 21 So Saul said, “I will give her to him, that she may [a]be a snare to him, and that (E)the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time, (F)“You shall be my son-in-law today.”

22 And Saul commanded his servants, “Communicate with David secretly, and say, ‘Look, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become the king’s son-in-law.’ ”

23 So Saul’s servants spoke those words in the hearing of David. And David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be a king’s son-in-law, seeing I am a poor and lightly esteemed man?”

22 Then Saul ordered his attendants: “Speak to David privately and say, ‘Look, the king likes you, and his attendants all love you; now become his son-in-law.’”

23 They repeated these words to David. But David said, “Do you think it is a small matter to become the king’s son-in-law?(H) I’m only a poor man and little known.”
