8 Vem är lik den vise, och vem kan förklara saker och ting?
Visheten gör människans ansikte ljust,
det stränga i hennes uppsyn förvandlas.
2 Jag säger: Akta på kungens ord
för den eds skull som du har svurit vid Gud.
3 Var inte snar att överge honom,
framhärda inte i något ont.
Han gör allt vad han vill.

8 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
2 I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
3 Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.

8 Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his countenance is changed.
2 I counsel you to keep the king’s command, and that in regard to the oath of God [by which you swore to him loyalty].(A)
3 Be not panic-stricken and hasty to get out of his presence. Persist not in an evil thing, for he does whatever he pleases.

A person’s wisdom brightens their face
and changes its hard appearance.

2 Obey the king’s command, I say, because you took an oath before God. 3 Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence.(A) Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases.
