²⁷ Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.

³⁰ because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.^(A)

³ So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love^(A) is sick.”

⁴ When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory^(B) so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

⁷ Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him,^(A) so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

¹³ No temptation^[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful;^(A) he will not let you be tempted^[b] beyond what you can bear.^(B) But when you are tempted,^[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

³⁷ About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.^(A)

³⁹ Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows^(A) stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

⁴⁰ Peter sent them all out of the room;^(B) then he got down on his knees^(C) and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.”^(D) She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. ⁴¹ He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.
