10 Dann sah ich, wie ein mächtiger Engel – ein anderer ´als der, den ich zuvor gesehen hatte` – vom Himmel herabkam. Der Engel war in eine Wolke gehüllt, über seinem Kopf stand ein[a] Regenbogen, sein Gesicht leuchtete wie die Sonne, und seine Beine sahen aus wie Säulen aus Feuer. 2 Er hielt eine kleine geöffnete Buchrolle in der Hand. Seinen rechten Fuß setzte er auf das Meer und den linken auf das Festland. 3 Mit einer gewaltigen Stimme, die wie das Brüllen eines Löwen klang, rief er etwas. Kaum hatte er geendet, ließen die sieben Donner ihre ´dröhnenden` Stimmen hören. 4 Als es wieder still war, wollte ich aufschreiben, was die sieben Donner gesagt hatten.[b] Doch da hörte ich eine Stimme aus dem Himmel rufen: »Betrachte das, was die sieben Donner gesagt haben, als versiegelt[c]; schreibe es nicht auf!«

5 Nun erhob der Engel, den ich ´mit dem einen Fuß` auf dem Meer und ´mit dem anderen Fuß` auf dem Land stehen sah, seine rechte Hand zum Himmel 6 und rief: »Ich schwöre bei dem, der in alle Ewigkeit lebt und der alles erschaffen hat – den Himmel und alles, was im Himmel ist, die Erde und alles, was auf der Erde ist, das Meer und alles, was im Meer ist; ich schwöre, dass es keinen Aufschub mehr geben wird[d]! 7 Denn wenn der siebte Engel auftreten und seine Posaune blasen wird, wird Gottes Plan, dieses große Geheimnis, zur Vollendung kommen. Alles, was Gott seinen Dienern, den Propheten, angekündigt hat, wird dann erfüllt sein.[e]«

8 Daraufhin sprach die Stimme aus dem Himmel, die ich eben schon gehört hatte, ein zweites Mal zu mir. Sie sagte: »Geh zu dem Engel, der auf dem Meer und auf dem Land steht, und lass dir von ihm die kleine geöffnete Buchrolle geben, die er in seiner Hand hält!« 9 Ich ging zu dem Engel und bat ihn, mir die Buchrolle zu geben. »Nimm sie und iss sie!«, sagte er. »Der Magen wird sich dir zusammenziehen, so bitter ist sie[f]; aber solange du sie im Mund hast, wird sie süß sein wie Honig.« 10 Ich nahm die Buchrolle aus seiner Hand und aß sie. Und ´wirklich,` als ich sie im Mund hatte, war sie süß wie Honig; aber als ich sie hinuntergeschluckt hatte, war sie so bitter, dass sich mir der Magen zusammenzog[g].

11 Danach wurde mir gesagt: »Du wirst noch mehr verkünden müssen – prophetische Worte über zahlreiche Völker, über Menschen verschiedenster Sprachen und Kulturen und über viele Könige.«

Das kleine Buch

10 Dann sah ich einen anderen mächtigen Engel vom Himmel auf die Erde herabkommen. Eine Wolke umgab ihn, und über seinem Kopf wölbte sich ein Regenbogen. Sein Gesicht leuchtete wie die Sonne, und seine Beine glichen lodernden Feuersäulen. 2 In seiner Hand hielt er ein kleines, aufgeschlagenes Buch. Seinen rechten Fuß setzte er auf das Meer, seinen linken auf das Land. 3 Wie Löwengebrüll dröhnte seine Stimme, und laut krachend antworteten ihm die sieben Donner. 4 Doch als ich aufschreiben wollte, was ich hörte, rief mir eine Stimme vom Himmel zu: »Schreib nicht auf, was die sieben Donner geredet haben. Behalt es für dich!«

5 Jetzt erhob der Engel, den ich mit einem Fuß auf dem Meer und mit dem anderen auf dem Land stehen sah, seine rechte Hand zum Himmel. 6 Und er schwor bei dem, der immer und ewig lebt, der den Himmel, die Erde, das Meer und alles Leben geschaffen hat: »Gott wird nicht länger warten! 7 Denn wenn der siebte Engel seine Posaune bläst, wird Gott seinen Plan, dieses große Geheimnis, vollenden, so wie er es seinen Dienern, den Propheten, zugesagt hat.«

8 Noch einmal sprach die Stimme vom Himmel zu mir und forderte mich auf: »Geh und nimm das aufgeschlagene Buch aus der Hand des Engels, der auf dem Meer und auf dem Land steht!« 9 Da ging ich zu dem Engel und bat ihn um das kleine Buch. Er antwortete mir: »Nimm das Büchlein und iss es auf! Es schmeckt süß wie Honig, aber du wirst Magenschmerzen davon bekommen.« 10 So nahm ich das kleine Buch aus seiner Hand und aß es. Es schmeckte wirklich süß wie Honig; aber dann lag es mir schwer im Magen.

11 Da sagte mir jemand: »Gott wird dir noch einmal zeigen, was er mit den Völkern, den Nationen verschiedenster Sprachen und ihren Herrschern vorhat. Das sollst du auch noch bekannt machen!«

The Angel with the Little Scroll

10 Then[a] I saw another powerful angel descending from heaven, wrapped[b] in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun and his legs were like pillars of fire.[c] 2 He held[d] in his hand a little scroll that was open, and he put his right foot on the sea and his left on the land. 3 Then[e] he shouted in a loud voice like a lion roaring, and when he shouted, the seven thunders sounded their voices. 4 When the seven thunders spoke, I was preparing to write, but[f] just then[g] I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders spoke and do not write it down.” 5 Then[h] the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven 6 and swore by the one who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, and the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, “There will be no more delay![i] 7 But in the days[j] when the seventh angel is about to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God is completed,[k] just as he has[l] proclaimed to his servants[m] the prophets.” 8 Then[n] the voice I had heard from heaven began to speak[o] to me[p] again,[q] “Go and take the open[r] scroll in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” 9 So[s] I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He[t] said to me, “Take the scroll[u] and eat it. It[v] will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.” 10 So[w] I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it, and it did taste[x] as sweet as honey in my mouth, but[y] when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. 11 Then[z] they[aa] told me: “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations,[ab] languages, and kings.”

10 Then I saw another mighty angel(A) coming down from heaven.(B) He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow(C) above his head; his face was like the sun,(D) and his legs were like fiery pillars.(E) 2 He was holding a little scroll,(F) which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land,(G) 3 and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion.(H) When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders(I) spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write;(J) but I heard a voice from heaven(K) say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”(L)

5 Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land(M) raised his right hand to heaven.(N) 6 And he swore(O) by him who lives for ever and ever,(P) who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it,(Q) and said, “There will be no more delay!(R) 7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet,(S) the mystery(T) of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”(U)

8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven(V) spoke to me once more: “Go, take the scroll(W) that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.”

9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’[a]”(X) 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth,(Y) but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy(Z) again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”(AA)
