27 Yna y daeth merched Salffaad, mab Heffer, mab Gilead, mab Machir, mab Manasse, o dylwyth Manasse mab Joseff; (a dyma enwau ei ferched ef; Mala, Noa, Hogla, Milca, a Tirsa;) Ac a safasant gerbron Moses, a cherbron Eleasar yr offeiriad, a cherbron y penaethiaid, a’r holl gynulleidfa, wrth ddrws pabell y cyfarfod, gan ddywedyd, Ein tad ni a fu farw yn yr anialwch; ac nid oedd efe ymysg y gynulleidfa a ymgasglodd yn erbyn yr Arglwydd yng nghynulleidfa Cora, ond yn ei bechod ei hun y bu farw; ac nid oedd meibion iddo. Paham y tynnir ymaith enw ein tad ni o fysg ei dylwyth, am nad oes iddo fab? Dod i ni feddiant ymysg brodyr ein tad. A dug Moses eu hawl hwynt gerbron yr Arglwydd.

A llefarodd yr Arglwydd wrth Moses, gan ddywedyd, Y mae merched Salffaad yn dywedyd yn uniawn; gan roddi dyro iddynt feddiant etifeddiaeth ymysg brodyr eu tad: trosa iddynt etifeddiaeth eu tad. Llefara hefyd wrth feibion Israel, gan ddywedyd, Pan fyddo marw un, ac heb fab iddo, troswch ei etifeddiaeth ef i’w ferch. Ac oni bydd merch iddo, rhoddwch ei etifeddiaeth ef i’w frodyr. 10 Ac oni bydd brodyr iddo; yna rhoddwch ei etifeddiaeth ef i frodyr ei dad. 11 Ac oni bydd brodyr i’w dad; yna rhoddwch ei etifeddiaeth ef i’w gâr nesaf iddo o’i dylwyth; a meddianned hwnnw hi: a bydded hyn i feibion Israel yn ddeddf farnedig, megis y gorchmynnodd yr Arglwydd wrth Moses.

12 A dywedodd yr Arglwydd wrth Moses, Dring i’r mynydd Abarim hwn, a gwêl y tir a roddais i feibion Israel. 13 Ac wedi i ti ei weled, tithau a gesglir at dy bobl, fel y casglwyd Aaron dy frawd. 14 Canys yn anialwch Sin, wrth gynnen y gynulleidfa, y gwrthryfelasoch yn erbyn fy ngair, i’m sancteiddio wrth y dwfr yn eu golwg hwynt: dyma ddwfr cynnen Cades, yn anialwch Sin.

15 A llefarodd Moses wrth yr Arglwydd, gan ddywedyd, 16 Gosoded yr Arglwydd, Duw ysbrydion pob cnawd, un ar y gynulleidfa, 17 Yr hwn a elo allan o’u blaen hwynt, ac a ddelo i mewn o’u blaen hwynt, a’r hwn a’u dygo hwynt allan, ac a’u dygo hwynt i mewn; fel na byddo cynulleidfa’r Arglwydd fel defaid ni byddo bugail arnynt.

18 A dywedodd yr Arglwydd wrth Moses, Cymer atat Josua mab Nun, y gŵr y mae yr ysbryd ynddo, a gosod dy law arno; 19 A dod ef i sefyll gerbron Eleasar yr offeiriad, a cherbron yr holl gynulleidfa; a dod orchymyn iddo ef yn eu gŵydd hwynt. 20 A dod o’th ogoniant di arno ef, fel y gwrandawo holl gynulleidfa meibion Israel arno. 21 A safed gerbron Eleasar yr offeiriad, yr hwn a ofyn gyngor drosto ef, yn ôl barn Urim, gerbron yr Arglwydd: wrth ei air ef yr ânt allan, ac wrth ei air ef y deuant i mewn, efe a holl feibion Israel gydag ef, a’r holl gynulleidfa. 22 A gwnaeth Moses megis y gorchmynnodd yr Arglwydd iddo: ac a gymerodd Josua, ac a barodd iddo sefyll gerbron Eleasar yr offeiriad, a cherbron yr holl gynulleidfa. 23 Ac efe a osododd ei ddwylo arno, ac a roddodd orchymyn iddo; megis y llefarasai yr Arglwydd trwy law Moses.

Zelophehad’s Daughters(A)

27 The daughters of Zelophehad(B) son of Hepher,(C) the son of Gilead,(D) the son of Makir,(E) the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward and stood before Moses,(F) Eleazar the priest, the leaders(G) and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting(H) and said, “Our father died in the wilderness.(I) He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord,(J) but he died for his own sin and left no sons.(K) Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”

So Moses brought their case(L) before the Lord,(M) and the Lord said to him, “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance(N) among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.(O)

“Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law(P) for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”

Joshua to Succeed Moses

12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain(Q) in the Abarim Range(R) and see the land(S) I have given the Israelites.(T) 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,(U) as your brother Aaron(V) was, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin,(W) both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy(X) before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah(Y) Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)

15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,(Z) appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”(AA)

18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a](AB) and lay your hand on him.(AC) 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him(AD) in their presence.(AE) 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.(AF) 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring(AG) of the Urim(AH) before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,(AI) as the Lord instructed through Moses.
