Numbers 7:7-9

⁷Two carts and four oxen ^(A)he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service; ⁸^(B)and four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the ^[a]authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. ⁹But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because theirs was ^(C)the service of the holy things, ^(D)which they carried on their shoulders.

They were all under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron, the priest. ⁹But Moses did not give any to the Kohathites,^(C) because they were to carry on their shoulders^(D) the holy things, for which they were responsible.
