¹⁷ Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;^(A) wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.^(B)

³⁶ In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;^{(A) 37} but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. ³⁸ So the cloud^(B) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

⁹ I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.^[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture.

³ The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice.^(A) He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.^{(B) 4} When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.^{(C) 5} But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

³³ So they set out^(A) from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord^(B) went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.^{(C) 34} The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they set out from the camp.^(D)

¹⁴ The Lord replied, “My Presence^(A) will go with you, and I will give you rest.”^(B)

¹⁵ Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence^(C) does not go with us, do not send us up from here.
