Daily Offerings

28 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the Israelites, and say to them: My offering, the food for my offerings by fire,[a] my pleasing odor, you shall take care to offer to me at its appointed time.(A) And you shall say to them: This is the offering by fire[b] that you shall offer to the Lord: two male lambs a year old without blemish, daily, as a regular offering.(B) One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight;[c] also one-tenth of an ephah of choice flour for a grain offering, mixed with one-fourth of a hin of beaten oil. It is a regular burnt offering, ordained at Mount Sinai for a pleasing odor, an offering by fire[d] to the Lord. Its drink offering shall be one-fourth of a hin for each lamb; in the sanctuary you shall pour out a drink offering of strong drink to the Lord.(C) The other lamb you shall offer at twilight[e] with a grain offering and a drink offering like the one in the morning; you shall offer it as an offering by fire,[f] a pleasing odor to the Lord.

Sabbath Offerings

“On the Sabbath day: two male lambs a year old without blemish and two-tenths of an ephah of choice flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering— 10 this is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.(D)

Monthly Offerings

11 “At the beginnings of your months you shall offer a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish;(E) 12 also three-tenths of an ephah of choice flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, for each bull; and two-tenths of choice flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, for the one ram;(F) 13 and one-tenth of choice flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each lamb—a burnt offering of pleasing odor, an offering by fire[g] to the Lord. 14 Their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine for a bull, one-third of a hin for a ram, and one-fourth of a hin for a lamb. This is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. 15 And there shall be one male goat for a purification offering to the Lord; it shall be offered in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.(G)

Offerings at Passover

16 “On the fourteenth day of the first month there shall be a Passover offering to the Lord.(H) 17 And on the fifteenth day of this month is a festival; seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.(I) 18 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall not work at your occupations.(J) 19 You shall offer an offering by fire,[h] a burnt offering to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old; see that they are without blemish. 20 Their grain offering shall be of choice flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah shall you offer for a bull and two-tenths for a ram; 21 one-tenth shall you offer for each of the seven lambs; 22 also one male goat for a purification offering, to make atonement for you. 23 You shall offer these in addition to the burnt offering of the morning, which belongs to the regular burnt offering.(K) 24 In the same way you shall offer daily, for seven days, the food of an offering by fire,[i] a pleasing odor to the Lord; it shall be offered in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering. 25 And on the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not work at your occupations.(L)

26 “On the day of the first fruits, when you offer a grain offering of new grain to the Lord at your Festival of Weeks, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not work at your occupations.(M) 27 You shall offer a burnt offering, a pleasing odor to the Lord: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old. 28 Their grain offering shall be of choice flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths for the one ram, 29 one-tenth for each of the seven lambs,

Worship of Baal of Peor

25 While Israel was staying at Shittim, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab.(A) These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.(B) Thus Israel yoked itself to the Baal of Peor, and the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel.(C) The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and impale them in the sun before the Lord, in order that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.”(D) And Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you shall kill any of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor.”

Just then one of the Israelites came and brought a Midianite woman into his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the Israelites, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting. When Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he got up and left the congregation. Taking a spear in his hand,(E) he went after the Israelite man into the tent and pierced the two of them, the Israelite and the woman, through the belly. So the plague was stopped among the Israelites. Nevertheless those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.(F)

10 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the Israelites by manifesting such zeal among them on my behalf that in my jealousy I did not consume the Israelites.(G) 12 Therefore say, ‘I hereby grant him my covenant of peace.(H) 13 It shall be for him and for his descendants after him a covenant of perpetual priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.’ ”(I)

14 The name of the slain Israelite man who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, head of an ancestral house belonging to the Simeonites. 15 The name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi daughter of Zur, who was the head of a clan, an ancestral house in Midian.(J)

16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 17 “Harass the Midianites, and defeat them,(K) 18 for they have harassed you by the trickery with which they deceived you in the affair of Peor, and in the affair of Cozbi, the daughter of a leader of Midian, their sister; she was killed on the day of the plague that resulted from Peor.”(L)

The Burnt Offering

The Lord summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When any of you bring an offering of livestock to the Lord, you shall bring your offering from the herd or from the flock.(A)

“If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you shall offer a male without blemish; you shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, for acceptance on your behalf before the Lord.(B) You shall lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be acceptable on your behalf as atonement for you.(C) The bull shall be slaughtered before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall offer the blood, dashing the blood against all sides of the altar that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting.(D) The burnt offering shall be flayed and cut up into its parts. The sons of the priest Aaron shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.(E) Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the parts, with the head and the suet, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar, but its entrails and its legs shall be washed with water. Then the priest shall turn the rest into smoke on the altar as a burnt offering, an offering by fire[a] of pleasing odor to the Lord.(F)

10 “If your gift for a burnt offering is from the flock, from the sheep or goats, your offering shall be a male without blemish. 11 It shall be slaughtered on the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall dash its blood against all sides of the altar.(G) 12 It shall be cut up into its parts, with its head and its suet, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood that is on the fire on the altar, 13 but the entrails and the legs shall be washed with water. Then the priest shall offer the rest and turn it into smoke on the altar; it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire[b] of pleasing odor to the Lord.

14 “If your offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you shall choose your offering from turtledoves or pigeons.(H) 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar and wring off its head and turn it into smoke on the altar, and its blood shall be drained out against the side of the altar.(I) 16 He shall remove its entrails close to its tail feathers and throw it at the east side of the altar, in the place for ashes.(J) 17 He shall tear it open by its wings without severing it. Then the priest shall turn it into smoke on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire; it is a burnt offering, an offering by fire[c] of pleasing odor to the Lord.(K)
