Inheritance of Zelophehad’s Daughters^(A)

36 The family heads of the clan of Gilead^(B) son of Makir,^(C) the son of Manasseh, who were from the clans of the descendants of Joseph,^(D) came and spoke before Moses and the leaders,^(E) the heads of the Israelite families.

¹⁴The descendants of Manasseh:^(A)

Asriel was his descendant through his Aramean concubine. She gave birth to Makir the father of Gilead.^(B) ¹⁵Makir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites. His sister’s name was Maakah.

Another descendant was named Zelophehad,^(C) who had only daughters.

¹⁶Makir’s wife Maakah gave birth to a son and named him Peresh. His brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

²So this allotment was for the rest of the people of Manasseh^(A)—the clans of Abiezer,^(B) Helek, Asriel,^(C) Shechem, Hepher^(D) and Shemida.^(E) These are the other male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph by their clans.

³Now Zelophehad son of Hepher,^(F) the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters,^(G) whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah.
