¹⁸ So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,^[a](A) and lay your hand on him.^(B)

⁹ Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit^[a] of wisdom^(A) because Moses had laid his hands on him.^(B) So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses.

²³ Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,^(A) as the Lord instructed through Moses.

³⁸ So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God^[a]?”^(A)

²³ The Lord gave this command^(A) to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous,^(B) for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”

⁶ When Paul placed his hands on them,^(A) the Holy Spirit came on them,^(B) and they spoke in tongues^[a](C) and prophesied.

¹⁰ The Spirit of the Lord came on him,^(A) so that he became Israel’s judge^[a] and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim^(B) king of Aram^(C) into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him.

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua and said^(A) to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them,^(B) and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. ⁸ The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;^(C) he will never leave you nor forsake you.^(D) Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

²⁸ But commission^(A) Joshua, and encourage^(B) and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across^(C) and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.”
