¹⁰ He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now you are trying to get the priesthood too.^(A)

⁹ I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us.

³ Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.^(A) Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,^(B)

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in love.^(A) Honor one another above yourselves.^(B)

²⁴ A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.^(A)

²¹ “What is it you want?” he asked.

She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”^(A)

²² “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup^(B) I am going to drink?”

“We can,” they answered.

⁷ But only you and your sons may serve as priests in connection with everything at the altar and inside the curtain.^(A) I am giving you the service of the priesthood as a gift.^(B) Anyone else who comes near the sanctuary is to be put to death.^(C)”
