4 When I heard these words, (A)I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before (B)the God of heaven. 5 I said, “I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, (C)the great and awesome God, (D)who preserves the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, 6 (E)let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, (F)confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned against You; (G)I and my father’s house have sinned.

4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.(A) For some days I mourned and fasted(B) and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said:
“Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God,(C) who keeps his covenant of love(D) with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear(E) the prayer(F) your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess(G) the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you.
