Return^(C) to the Lord your God,
    for he is gracious and compassionate,^(D)

    abounding in love^(A) to all who call to you.

    slow to anger and rich in love.^(B)

⁹ The Lord is good^(C) to all;
    he has compassion^(D) on all he has made.

¹⁵ But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious^(A) God,
    slow to anger,^(B) abounding^(C) in love and faithfulness.^(D)

¹⁸ Who is a God^(A) like you,
    who pardons sin^(B) and forgives^(C) the transgression
    of the remnant^(D) of his inheritance?^(E)
You do not stay angry^(F) forever
    but delight to show mercy.^(G)
19 You will again have compassion on us;
    you will tread our sins underfoot
    and hurl all our iniquities^(H) into the depths of the sea.^(I)

“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
    and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”^[a](A)

⁷ Let the wicked forsake^(A) their ways
    and the unrighteous their thoughts.^(B)
Let them turn^(C) to the Lord, and he will have mercy^(D) on them,
    and to our God, for he will freely pardon.^(E)

⁸ “For my thoughts^(F) are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways,”^(G)
declares the Lord.
⁹ “As the heavens are higher than the earth,^(H)
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.^(I)
