1 Oracolo su Ninive. Libro della visione di Naum da Elcos.
PRELUDIO
Salmo. La collera del Signore
2 Un Dio geloso e vendicatore è il Signore,
vendicatore è il Signore, pieno di sdegno.
Il Signore si vendica degli avversari
e serba rancore verso i nemici.
3 Il Signore è lento all'ira, ma grande in potenza
e nulla lascia impunito.
Nell'uragano e nella tempesta è il suo cammino
e le nubi sono la polvere dei suoi passi.
4 Minaccia il mare e il mare si secca,
prosciuga tutti i ruscelli.
Basàn e il Carmelo inaridiscono,
anche il fiore del Libano languisce.
5 Davanti a lui tremano i monti,
ondeggiano i colli;
si leva la terra davanti a lui,
il mondo e tutti i suoi abitanti.
6 Davanti al suo sdegno chi può resistere
e affrontare il furore della sua ira?
La sua collera si spande come il fuoco
e alla sua presenza le rupi si spezzano.
7 Buono è il Signore, un asilo sicuro
nel giorno dell'angoscia:
8 conosce quelli che confidano in lui
quando l'inondazione avanza.
Stermina chi insorge contro di lui
e i suoi nemici insegue nelle tenebre.
Sentenze profetiche, a Giuda e a Ninive

9 Che tramate voi contro il Signore?
Egli distrugge:
non sopravverrà due volte la sciagura,
10 poiché come un mucchio di pruni
saranno consunti, come paglia secca.

11 Da te è uscito colui che trama
il male contro il Signore, il consigliere malvagio.

12 Così dice il Signore:
Siano pure potenti, siano pure numerosi,
saranno falciati e spariranno.
Ma se ti ho afflitto, non ti affliggerò più.
13 Ora, infrangerò il suo giogo che ti opprime,
spezzerò le tue catene.
(al re di Ninive: oracolo)
14 Ma contro di te ecco il decreto del Signore:
Nessuna discendenza porterà il tuo nome,
dal tempio dei tuoi dei farò sparire
le statue scolpite e quelle fuse,
farò del tuo sepolcro un'ignominia.

2 Il Signore è un Dio geloso e vendicatore;
il Signore è vendicatore e pieno di furore;
il Signore si vendica dei suoi avversari
e serba rancore verso i suoi nemici.
3 Il Signore è lento all'ira ed è molto potente,
ma non lascia il colpevole impunito.
Il Signore cammina nell'uragano e nella tempesta,
e le nuvole sono la polvere dei suoi piedi.
4 Egli sgrida il mare e lo prosciuga,
dissecca tutti i fiumi.
*Basan langue, langue il *Carmelo
e appassisce il fiore del Libano.
5 I monti tremano davanti a lui,
si sciolgono i colli;
alla sua presenza si solleva la terra
e il mondo con tutti i suoi abitanti.
6 Chi può resistere davanti alla sua indignazione?
Chi può sopportare l'ardore della sua ira?
Il suo furore si spande come fuoco
e le rocce si schiantano davanti a lui.
7 Il Signore è buono;
è un rifugio nel giorno dell'angoscia
e conosce quelli che confidano in lui.
8 Ma con una irrompente inondazione
egli distruggerà completamente chi l'attacca
e inseguirà i suoi nemici fin nelle tenebre.

9 (C)Che cosa premeditate voi contro il Signore?
Egli farà una distruzione totale;
la sventura non si abbatterà due
volte.
10 Poiché, anche se fossero intrecciati come rovi
e fradici di bevande,
saranno interamente consumati,
come stoppia secca.
11 Da te è uscito
colui che ha tramato il male contro il Signore,
che ha premeditato scelleratezze.
12 Cosí dice il Signore: «Anche se forti e numerosi,
saranno falciati e scompariranno;
e se io ti ho afflitta
non ti affliggerò piú.
13 Ora spezzerò il suo giogo di dosso a te
e romperò le tue catene».
14 Quanto a te, il Signore ha dato quest'ordine:
«Che non ci sia piú discendenza con il tuo nome;
io eliminerò dalla casa delle tue divinità le immagini scolpite e le immagini fuse;
io ti preparerò la tomba perché sei diventato spregevole».
15 (D)Ecco, sui monti,
i piedi di un messaggero che porta buone notizie, che annunzia la pace!
Celebra le tue *feste, o *Giuda, adempi i tuoi voti;
perché il malvagio non passerà piú in mezzo a te;
egli è completamente distrutto.

2 L'Eterno è un Dio geloso e vendicatore, l'Eterno è vendicatore e pieno di furore. L'Eterno si vendica dei suoi avversari e conserva l'ira per i suoi nemici.
3 L'Eterno è lento all'ira e grande in potenza, ma non lascia affatto impunito il malvagio. L'Eterno persegue il suo cammino nel turbine e nella tempesta e le nuvole sono la polvere dei suoi piedi.
4 Egli sgrida il mare e lo prosciuga, e fa seccare tutti i fiumi. Bashan e Karmel inaridiscono e il fiore del Libano avvizzisce.
5 I monti tremano davanti a lui, i colli si fondono, alla sua presenza la terra si solleva, sí, il mondo e tutti i suoi abitanti.
6 Chi può resistere davanti alla sua indignazione e chi può sopportare l'ardore della sua ira? Il suo furore è riversato come fuoco e le rocce sono da lui frantumate.
7 L'Eterno è buono, una fortezza nel giorno dell'avversità; egli conosce quelli che si rifugiano in lui.
8 Ma con una straripante inondazione egli compirà una totale distruzione del suo luogo, e i suoi nemici saranno inseguiti dalle tenebre.
9 Che cosa progettate contro l'Eterno? Egli compirà una totale distruzione; l'avversità non avverrà due volte.
10 Perché fossero pure intrecciati come rovi e fradici per il vino ingerito, essi saranno consumati come stoppia totalmente secca.
11 Da te è uscito chi ha tramato il male contro l'Eterno, chi ha concepito malvagità.
12 Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Anche se sono pieni di forza e numerosi, saranno falciati e scompariranno. Anche se ti ho afflitta, non ti affliggerò piú.
13 Ora spezzerò il suo giogo di dosso a te e strapperò via i tuoi legami».
14 Ma riguardo a te l'Eterno ha dato questo comando: «Il tuo nome non sarà piú perpetuato. Dal tempio dei tuoi dèi farò scomparire le immagini scolpite e le immagini fuse. Ti preparerò la tomba, perché sei spregevole».
15 Ecco sui monti i piedi di chi annuncia buone novelle e che proclama la pace! Celebra le tue feste solenni, o Giuda, adempi i tuoi voti, perché il malvagio non passerà piú in mezzo a te; egli sarà interamente sterminato.

2 The Lord is a jealous God, and a revenger: the Lord is a revenger, and hath wrath: the Lord taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he is angry with his enemies.
3 The Lord is patient, and great in power, and will not cleanse and acquit the guilty. The Lord's ways are in a tempest, and a whirlwind, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and drieth it up: and bringeth all the rivers to be a desert. Basan languisheth and Carmel: and the flower of Libanus fadeth away.
5 The mountains tremble at him, and the hills are made desolate: and the earth hath quaked at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Who can stand before the face of his indignation? and who shall resist in the fierceness of his anger? his indignation is poured out like fire: and the rocks are melted by him.
7 The Lord is good and giveth strength in the day of trouble: and knoweth them that hope in him.
8 But with a flood that passeth by, he will make an utter end of the place thereof: and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
9 What do ye devise against the Lord? he will make an utter end: there shall not rise a double affliction.
10 For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.
11 Out of thee shall come forth one that imagineth evil against the Lord, contriving treachery in his mind.
12 Thus saith the Lord: Though they were perfect: and many of them so, yet thus shall they be cut off, and he shall pass: I have afflicted thee, and I will afflict thee no more.
13 And now I will break in pieces his rod with which he struck thy back, and I will burst thy bonds asunder.
14 And the Lord will give a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name shall be sown: I will destroy the graven and molten thing out of the house of thy God, I will make it thy grave, for thou art disgraced.
15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, and that preacheth peace: O Juda, keep thy festivals, and pay thy vows: for Belial shall no more pass through thee again, he is utterly cut off.

The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh
2 The Lord is a jealous(D) and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance(E) and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
and vents his wrath against his enemies.(F)
3 The Lord is slow to anger(G) but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.(H)
His way is in the whirlwind(I) and the storm,(J)
and clouds(K) are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes(L) the sea and dries it up;(M)
he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel(N) wither
and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.
5 The mountains quake(O) before him
and the hills melt away.(P)
The earth trembles(Q) at his presence,
the world and all who live in it.(R)
6 Who can withstand(S) his indignation?
Who can endure(T) his fierce anger?(U)
His wrath is poured out like fire;(V)
the rocks are shattered(W) before him.
7 The Lord is good,(X)
a refuge in times of trouble.(Y)
He cares for(Z) those who trust in him,(AA)
8 but with an overwhelming flood(AB)
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.
9 Whatever they plot(AC) against the Lord
he will bring[a] to an end;
trouble will not come a second time.
10 They will be entangled among thorns(AD)
and drunk(AE) from their wine;
they will be consumed like dry stubble.[b](AF)
11 From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
who plots evil against the Lord
and devises wicked plans.
12 This is what the Lord says:
“Although they have allies and are numerous,
they will be destroyed(AG) and pass away.
Although I have afflicted you, Judah,
I will afflict you no more.(AH)
13 Now I will break their yoke(AI) from your neck
and tear your shackles away.”(AJ)
