5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it (A)with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but (B)endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately (C)they fall away.[a]
